     Three things must match on both sending and receiving modems/software.

On non-V series modems, set the software to Autobaud or Autodect =  YES/ON.

Two  is Terminal Emulation (most often ANSI), some mainframe BBS use  VT100

or  some other emulation. The last is Parity, Stop, and Bits. You will  see

somewhere  in the software a place to set N,8,1 or E,7,1  (could  be  8,N,1

or 7,E,1) the two most common settings. Most local BBS use N,8,1 and  large

BBS like Compuserve use E,7,1.
