<How to use Help>
How to use HELP:
---------------
    Context-sensitive help is available from practically any
    point in the program when you press F-1. The help information
    displayed will be related to the area of the program you are
    working in when the help is called. (When calling Help from
    the Main Menu, you view this Help screen information first.)
    You can scroll through the Help information by:
         1) Using the Up & Down cursor keys.
         2) Using the mouse (place the pointer to the top or
             bottom of the vertical scrollbar on the right side
             of the screen and press left mouse button).
         3) Using the PageUp or PageDown keys to move a page at
             a time or using Ctrl & PageUp or Ctrl & PageDown to
             move to the top or bottom of the file.

    Notice that the above actions move the scrolling horizonal bar
    up and down through the list (or text) areas.

         To select a different help area:
         1) Press Alt & S to view all the SECTIONS available for
            this program (or place the mouse pointer on the
            Sections button and double click the left mouse
            button.) Move the scrolling highlight bar as
            explained above. When the desired Section is
            highlighted by the bar, press ENTER (or double click
            the left mouse button, with the pointer on the
            highlight bar) to select it.
         2) Press Alt & T to view all the TOPICS available in the
            currently selected Section (or point and double click
            the mouse on the Topics button). Move the highlight
            bar to the desired topic and select in the same
            manner as for the sections.

<General Program Information>
General Information:
-------------------
    Sights & Sounds (Videos) requires a color monitor and DOS 3.3 or
    better. It will run with 400K but is very slow. The recommended
    minimum is 512K. Your Config.sys file should call for a minimum
    of Files = 30 and Buffers = 20. The program will handle up to
    99,999 video entries.
              A Microsoft-compatible mouse is optional.
              A printer is optional. ( All print routines were
    designed for standard 8.5x11 tractor feed paper and have
    been tested on a Panasonic 1124 dot matrix printer set to
    Epson LQ-2500 mode. They MAY work on a laser or a single
    sheet feed printer, but are not guaranteed.) If your printer
    is not on line when you attempt a print routine, you will
    receive an error message and must correct the problem or
    abort the print request.

    Most program options are selected using push buttons. These
    buttons are normally blue with gray lettering. When selected
    the buttons change to red with gray lettering. (The Exit or
    Escape button is ALWAYS red with yellow lettering and is
    always located in the lower right hand corner of the current
    screen.) When any option is NOT available, the button will
    change to blue with very dark gray lettering and that option
    can not be selected. Options can be selected in several
    different ways:
         1) Place the mouse pointer on the desired button and
             double click the left mouse button.
         2) Use the cursor (arrow) keys to cycle through the
             option choices until the desired option button
             changes to red. Then press ENTER.
         3) Use the "Hot Key". Many option buttons will also
             have a specified hot key.
             a) On some buttons the Hot Key is a single letter
                which is highlighted in bright white. Press the
                designated letter and the ALT key together to
                select the option.
             b) Other buttons will name a specific key. Press
                the named key to perform the desired option. Some
                of these special hot keys are:
                1) the ESCape key: to exit or cancel.
                2) the INSert key: used to ADD a new record.
                3) the DELete key: used to DELETE a record.
                4) the F-1 key: used for on-line help.
                5) the F-5 key: used for record printing.
                6) the F-10 key: used to complete a form.

<Video Files Program Levels>
Choosing the Video Program Level:
--------------------------------

    When you select the View/Update Video Files option, you must next
    choose the program level you wish to use. The differences between
    the two available levels are the amount of information which can
    be entered on each video record & the viewing/listing options
    which are available. The Deluxe level requires more information
    and has many more options. The same video file is used regardless
    of which level you choose, so you can start with one level and
    change to the other level without having to re enter the video
    record information.
    Your menu options are:
                        Standard (Hot key: S),
                        Deluxe (Hot key: D),
                        Exiting back to Main Menu (Hot key: ESCape)

<Standard Level Video>
The Standard Level:
------------------
    The Standard level is intended for those who wish to keep a
    simple database for their video collection. The following
    information is recorded: the video title, the format (video
    tape or laser disc), stereo ?, video number, category, movie
    rating, & length (running time). There is a 120 character
    field for brief notes or descriptions. The Standard level
    has 4  different viewing options.

<Deluxe Level Video>
The Deluxe Level:
----------------
    The Deluxe level is for those who wish to keep more information
    on their video collection. The information recorded for the
    Deluxe level is: the video title, the format (video tape or
    laser disc), stereo ?, video file number, category, movie rating,
    length (running time), director, producer, up to four of the
    stars, the year of release, and the cost of the video. The 120
    character note field is also available for brief notes or
    descriptions. There are 8 different viewing options available
    with the Deluxe level.

        (the "ESC = Exit" button is the only option available at this
        point).

<Print Options Menu>
The Print Options Menu:
----------------------
    The options on the main print menu are::
                   Single Space Listings (Hot key: S)
                   Double Space Listings (Hot key: D)
                   Insurance Listing (Hot key: I)
                   Print Labels (Hot key: L)
                   Exiting (Hot key: ESCape)

    Choosing the Single Spaced or Double Spaced listings options
    presents you with another menu. The only difference between the
    printed lists options for single spaced and double spaced is the
    spacing. The options for both single & double spaced lists are:
                   Print all records by...
                                   Video Title (Hot key: V)
                                   (alphabetical by video title)
                                   File Number (Hot key: N)
                                   (alphanumerical by file number)
          or Print records for a selected...
                                   Category (Hot key: C)
                                   (prints only the records for the
                                   selected category)
                                   Rating (Hot key: R)
                                   (prints only the records for the
                                   selected rating)

    The Insurance listing lists the entire video collection in
    alphabetical order by video title. It displays the cost/value
    amount entered for each video and provides a total dollar amount
    for the entire collection.

    (NOTE: If there are no records to print or no matching records to
    print, nothing will be printed and the program will automatically
    return to the print options menu screen.)

<Printing Labels>
Printing Labels:
---------------
    Choosing the Print Label option allows you to print free form
    labels. A form is displayed on the screen and you can fill in
    the four fields (designated "Line 1, Line 2, Line 3, & Line 4").
    Each field is 32 characters in length. Type the information you
    wish to print on each line and press the down arrow or tab key
    to advance to the next line. The labels are freeform because
    you can enter anything you wish into any or all of the four
    fields and print a label with exactly what you have entered on
    the label form. Since this information is not saved, you must
    "fill out" a new label form for each label you wish to print.

<Category Files>
<Look Up Files>
<Rating Files>
View\Edit Category and Rating Files:
-------------------------
    Sights & Sounds (Videos) uses lookup tables (or "pick lists")
    for the video categories and the video ratings. You can view,
    edit, add, and/or delete any entry in either of these files by
    selecting the appropriate file menu option here. These same
    lookup tables are available from within the Standard and Deluxe
    video data entry forms. (NOTE: you can only ADD or SELECT a
    category or rating from within the Video Information Forms.)

       The lookup tables and the related menu hot keys are:
              Category Files (Hot key: C),
              Movie Guide Rating Files (Hot key: R)

    See the topic LookUp Tables in the Using the Tables section
    for further information.

==================================================================
<<Using the Tables>>

<Standard Level Tables>
The Standard Level Tables
-------------------------
    When you access the video file from the Add New Videos \ View by
    Title option, you can add new videos, view/edit/print existing
    video records, or delete existing video records. When you
    access the View by Video Number, View by Category, or View by
    Rating tables, you can view/edit/print or delete existing video
    records. You cannot add new videos from these tables.

<Deluxe Level Tables>
The Deluxe Level Tables:
-----------------------
    When you access the video file from the Add New Videos \ View by
    Title option, you can add new videos, view/edit/print existing
    video records, or delete existing video records. When you choose
    the tables to View by Video Number, View by Category, View by
    Rating, View by Star, View by Director, View by Producer, or View
    by Year Released, you can view/edit/print or delete existing
    video records. You cannot add new videos from these tables.

    The View by Director (and View by Producer) tables will display
    ONLY the video records which contain a name in the director field
    (or the producer field). All other records will be filtered out.
    Depending on the size of the video collection, this search/filter
    could take several seconds. Be PATIENT!

    NOTE: Many of the Deluxe tables contain MORE than 70 columns of
    information per line item and scroll horizonally as well as
    vertically. You can scroll the lines left and right using the
    Left and Right arrow keys, the mouse on the horizonal scroll bar
    at the bottom of the list display, or the Home and End keys. You
    can scroll the lists vertically using the Up and Down arrow keys,
    the mouse on the vertical scroll on the right side of the list
    display, or press the PageUp/PageDown to move a page at a time,
    or press Control and PageUp/PageDown to move to the top/bottom of
    the list.

<Speed Search Option>
The Speed Search Options:
------------------------
    All Standard level tables and five of the Deluxe level tables
    have a Speed Search which allows you to quickly find any record.
    This Speed Search field is active when you open the table and is
    tied to the primary sort\index field for each table. (For the
    View by Title tables, the search field is the video title; for
    the View by Video Number tables, the search field is the video
    number; for the View by Category tables, the search field is the
    category, for the View by Rating tables, the search field is the
    rating; and for the Deluxe level View by Year released table, the
    search field is the year of release.) When the selected table
    appears on the screen, simply begin typing the data you wish to
    search for. As you type, the letters\numbers you enter will be
    displayed in the Speed Search field. When you have entered the
    information to search for, press the down arrow or the Tab key to
    begin the search. The scrolling horizonal bar will move to the
    first video record in the file which matches or most closely
    matches your search criteria. Note that you can enter partial
    words or numbers in the Speed Search. You do not have to enter a
    complete word/number.

<Star Search Table>
Using the Star Search Function:
------------------------------
    When you select the view the Deluxe file for a Star, a form is
    displayed on the screen which prompts you to enter the name of
    the star to search for. Enter the name and press the F10 key
    to begin the search. (Press ESCape or select the ESC = Exit

<<Shareware and Registration>>
<What is Shareware?>
What is Shareware?
-----------------
    Shareware is a marketing method which allows computer users
    to try a program BEFORE they buy it. If the user likes the
    program AND continues to use it beyond a specified period of
    time, he/she is obligated to register the use of that program
    with the author. Since the Shareware registration fees are
    usually small in contrast to comparable commercial offerings,
    the software user can receive quality computer programs at a
    reasonable cost. These registration fees also support the
    program authors and encourage them to produce more and better
    quality products. If, on the other hand, the user doesn't like
    the Shareware program or does not continue using the program,
    he/she simply deletes it and pays nothing!

    Sights & Sounds (videos) is distributed as Shareware. It is
    not free!. You are granted a limited license to use this
    program for a 21 day period for evaluation purposes. If you
    continue to use Sights & Sounds (Videos) beyond the evaluation
    period, you are expected to register your use of the program.

    You may freely copy and distribute the Shareware version of
    Sights & Sounds (Videos), PROVIDED that the program is not
    modified in any way and is kept in its original form with all
    files intact. The files included with the Shareware version
    are: SSVIDEO.EXE, SSVIDEOS.HLP, and SSVIDEOS.TXT and are just
    over 603K in working form. File names created when you run
    the VIDCATS.*, VIDRATES.*, & VIDTAPES.*

<Product Registration>
Sights & Sounds Registration:
----------------------------
    There are two levels of registration available for this program.

    Standard: The registrant receives a registered copy of the
               latest version of the program. The only difference
               between the Shareware version and this Registered
               is in the opening menu screen. The Standard
               registration is $25.00 (plus $5.00 for
               shipping/handling).

    Deluxe: The registrant receives registered copies of Sights
               & Sounds (Videos) and Sights & Sounds (Audios)
               (latest versions). (Audios is similar to the Videos
               program but is designed for audio tapes, records,
               cds, etc.) Both programs will be personalized with
               the registrant's name entered on the opening menu
               screen. Additional program support is provided,
               as well as a free upgrade (if any are made) during
               a 12 month period from the date of registration.
               The Deluxe registration is $45.00 (plus $5.00
               for shipping/handing).
