                        -- I N T R O D U C T I O N --

WPX provides slight magnification of DOS and text oriented

programs such as WordPerfect, and is automatically disabled

when a graphics program such as Windows is running.

This low magnification is very helpful for users with poor

vision, tired eyes at day's end, or when using a notebook

computer under less than optimum lighting.

In addition to enlarging text, WPX provides a "Review Mode"

that allows you to move the magnified window around the full

80 character by 25 line display, change magnification, and/or

         change "tracking mode."

WPX is NOT a conventional large print system with five to

twenty times character magnification, and therefore, does NOT

require features to help relate the magnified text to the

screen area being enlarged. That is, there is always

sufficient screen area in view to maintain orientation.

                -- S Y S T E M R E Q U I R E M E N T S --

WPX requires about 6K bytes of RAM, a standard VGA display,

and a hard disk, and runs under DOS Version-5 or later on an

         IBM PC or equivalent computer.

WPX magnifies when the display is in 80 by 25 text mode as

with WordPerfect, 1-2-3, and many other text oriented

         programs.

                        -- I N S T A L L A T I O N --

WPX installation is easy. Just copy the WPX.COM file onto

         your system hard disk (Drive-C).

                        -- L O A D I N G W P X --

WPX is a resident extension of DOS (a TSR) that remains in

memory to provide service while other programs are running.

WPX is loaded into memory via a

              WPX <level> [<keys>] [<color>] [<tracking>] [QUIET]

                                       -1-

command issued from the DOS command line, AUTOEXEC, or other

         batch file.

<level> sets the initial magnification level and is specified

as "LEVEL-1" for an 80 by 25 (unmagnified) display, "LEVEL-2"

         for a 60 by 18 magnified window, or "LEVEL-3" for a 40 by 13

magnified window. The magnification level may be changed at

will via Review Mode. An initial magnification level must be

         specified.

<keys> is a combination of two shift keys (LEFT, RIGHT, CTRL

& ALT), joined by a plus sign, to specify a key combination

that facilitates interruption of running programs to enter

WPX's Review Mode. When not specified, the center key of the

numeric keypad ("5" when NumLocked) is used to enter Review

Mode. This option provides an alternative when a keyboard

does not contain a numeric keypad or if NumLock is needed.

CTRL+LEFT is easy to momentarily depress on most keyboards.

<color> specifies a border color to indicate that a program

has been interrupted and you are operating in Review Mode.

When not specified, a RED border indicates Review Mode.

WHITE, GREEN, BLUE, CYAN, MAGENTA, YELLOW or BLACK may be

specified as a Review Mode border color.

<tracking> sets the initial window tracking mode. This mode

may be changed at will via Review Mode. When not specified,

CURSOR tracking is initially in effect. STATIONARY or MOUSE

         tracking may be specified.

         QUIET specifies no audio cues.

         Sample WPX command line:

             WPX LEVEL-2

             WPX LEVEL-3 CTRL+ALT

             WPX LEVEL-3 CYAN

WPX LEVEL-1 LEFT+RIGHT QUIET GREEN MOUSE

                        -- R E V I E W M O D E --

Review Mode is entered by momentarily holding the PAD-CENTER

key, or shift key combination specified on the command line

when the WPX TSR was loaded.

WPX responds to a Review Mode keyin (unless in graphics or

nonstandard text mode) by suspending the execution of the

running program (or DOS), displaying the Review Mode border,

         and sounding a unique tone.

                                       -2-

When you enter Review Mode, WPX displays the row and column

of the upper left corner until you release the Review Mode

entry key(s). That is, WPX tells you what portion of the

full 80 by 25 display is represented by the magnified window.

While in review mode you may use the keys of the numeric

keypad to browse the screen. HOLDING an ARROW key down will

scroll the magnified window left, right, up or down, until

the key is released. F1-F10 may be used to adjust this

scroll rate. STRIKING a SHIFTed arrow key will step the

magnified window one row or column. Striking the "corner"

keys (HOME, END, PGUP and PGDN) will position the magnified

window at the corresponding corner of the 80 by 25 display.

While in Review Mode, HOLDING the SPACE bar down will temp-

orally switch magnification off and restore magnification

         when the SPACE is released.

Striking the "1" "2" or "3" key will switch MAGNIFICATION to

the corresponding level (LEVEL-1, LEVEL-2 or LEVEL-3) and

         EXIT Review Mode.

Striking the "C" "M" or "S" key will switch TRACKING to

CURSOR, MOUSE or STATIONARY and EXIT Review Mode.

         Holding a SHIFT key while striking "1" "2" "3" "C" "M" or "S"

will perform the corresponding function and remain in Review

         Mode.

In addition to selecting a magnification level or tracking

mode, you may exit Review Mode via the Review Mode entry

key(s), striking ENTER, or striking ESCAPE.

              -- I N T R O D U C T O R Y E X E R C I S E --

WPX is very easy to use. Try the following exercise and

you'll be up and running in minutes.

         1. Switch to the drive/directory containing your WPX.COM

file and load the WPX TSR by entering "WPX LEVEL-3" on

the DOS command line. (Use "WPX LEVEL-3 LEFT+CTRL" if

your keyboard does not have a numeric keypad.)

         2. Type DIR<enter> on the DOS command line.

         3. Enter Review Mode (PAD-CENTER or LEFT+CTRL). Then

strike the "2" digit key to switch to magnification

            Level-2 and resume DOS execution.

                                       -3-

         4. If your display does not present this magnification

level well, repeat Step-3 except, switch to Level-3

            (use the "3" key).

         5. Browse the screen using the arrow keys. Hold the SPACE

            bar to de-magnify.

         6. Exit Review Mode by striking the Review Mode entry

key(s) (PAD-CENTER or LEFT+CTRL) or ESCAPE or ENTER.

         7. Start WordPerfect (or other text oriented program) and

operate with magnification on. Enter review mode and

strike the "1" key to turn magnification off.

                 -- S P E C I A L S I T U A T I O N S --

WPX provides three magnification levels: 80 characters

         by 25 lines (Level-1), 60 by 18 (Level-2), and 40 by 13

         (Level-3).

The largest magnification (Level-3) works well on virtually

all VGA displays; and, of course, the standard (Level-1)

works on all displays. However, the middle magnification

(Level-2) does not work well with all monitors, or with all

         notebook computers.

Sometimes, striking CTRL+Ls or CTRL+Rs while in Review Mode

(to adjust screen centering) will correct the problem. In

other cases, the hardware just doesn't support this display

         mode.

                    -- E V A L U A T I O N C O P Y --

WPX is distributed as a full function evaluation package that

magnifies for twenty minutes to allow you to check it out.

Re-booting provides extra evaluation periods. When the

magnification stops, programs continue to run in their normal

         (unmagnified) fashion.

There are three reasons for distributing WPX in evaluation

copy form: (1) the market is relatively small and standard

retail or shareware methods are not practical, (2) some note-

book computers do not totally emulate a VGA display and may

leave some enlarged text distorted or unreadable, and (3) a

no cost evaluation allows you to see if low magnification is

         suitable for your needs.

                                       -4-

When you order a WPX it is conditioned to run on a single

computer. This makes it possible to provide WPX for only $20

         per computer.

                 -- O R D E R I N G P R O C E D U R E --

         1. Load WPX and record the displayed "System ID." This

10-digit number is needed to produce conditioning codes

that will allow WPX to run on your computer without a

             time limit.

         2. Enter your System ID, your phone number, and your name

and address ("From") on the following WPX order form.

         3. Complete the MasterCard or VISA information (account

number, expiration date, and signature) and mail, or fax,

your form to HFK Software; or mail the form with a check

             for $20 (US).

If you provide a fax number on your order form, the

conditioning codes will be faxed to you; otherwise, they will

         be mailed.
