                    A Quick Start with Postlink

1: Setup the conferences on your BBS that you will be echoing with
Postlink, making sure that they are setup as echoed conferences.

2: Unzip your postlink files into your Postlink directory. Put your
copy of the CHANNELS.NME file into your Postlink directory. Place
a copy of your POSTLINK.REG file in your Postlink directory. If
you use a UTI, make sure that your UTI files are in your path.

3: Edit the CALLER.CFG but make it appropriate for your own system:

      MODE=REMOTE CALLER
      COMM-PORT=1
      COMM-BPS=38400
      MODEM-DIALING-PREFIX="atm1dt"
      MODEM-DIALING-SUFFIX="\n"
      WORK-DIR=C:\POSTLINK\WORK

4: Edit POSTLINK.CFG (see the postlink.cfg file included with this)

5: Run either MANAGE or TMANAGE
1 - Choose conferences and Update your conferences
2 - Choose Sites and Add the following sites:
                Local Site
Hub we call - you must first obtain the site number of
the hub we call from the hub you call!
Default site - add this site ONLY if you are a hub
3 - Choose Edit a site and edit each of the three sites you
            have just added:
                Local Site:
                        Allowed channels (incoming and outgoing)
                                - add 1-32, 100-1000
                        Active channels (incoming and outgoing)
                                 - add 1-32 100-1000

                Hub We Call:
                        Allowed channels (incoming and outgoing)
                                - add 1-32 100-1000
                        Active channels (incoming and outgoing)
                                - add 1-32 100-1000
                        Compression - ZIP
                        Protocol - DSZ (or HSLink)

Default Site (only if you are a hub)
                        Allowed Channels (incoming and outgoing)
                                - add 1-32 100-1000

4 - Choose Dictionary and then PUBLISH your name...

5 - Choose Conferences and then edit. Now it is time to hook
your conferences up with the correct channel. For each
conference you wish to configure for your network:

move the bar to the first conference you wish to link
up with a channel and press ENTER.
move the bar to the correct channel for that
                        conference and press ENTER
check the configuration options chosen from your
postlink.cfg file and press CTRL-ENTER to save

6: If you are a hub prepare and edit a separate HOSTx.CFG file for
each BBS node that you will be using to allow sites access to your
postlink hubdoor. It should look like this for node1:

      mode=remote host
      comm-port=1
      work-dir=c:\postlink\work1
      log=c:\postlink\post1.log

Make a door on your BBS for nodes calling you. To run PostLink as
a door, create the necessary batch file for your BBS software to
run a door. It might look similar to the this for node 1:

      @echo off
      cd\postlink
      postlink host1.cfg
      cd\bbs
bbs.exe (or whatever to get your bbs back online)

7. Write down the phone number of the hub you call and the door number
of your hub's postlink door.

To run Postlink:

From the DOS prompt, execute POSTLINK CALLER.CFG. You will
create your U###.zip file and a file called preamble. After that (for
the first time only) PostLink will pop up and say it can't find
POSTCALL.SCR, press any key to start learning script, be ready to
press any key and do it! Then press ALT-D to tell Postlink the number
you wish to dial and that your default dialing time is 15 minutes.
Postlink will dial the number. After it's connected, use your
standard logon and enter the Postlink door. The software will
immediately take over from there. After your mail has been transferred
Postlink will ask you if you wish to type an H to hang up now or any
other key to stay on line. Type H to hang up immediately. When you
have hung up, press Alt-X to exit the script. You will immediately
shift into automatic import of your downloaded mail packet.

The next time you run "POSTLINK CALLER.CFG", it will
automatically run the script you recorded doing all your mail
exporting, extracting, calling and importing!
