Installation and Release Notes for Chess Mentor Version 1.1 Demo

Thank you for trying Chess Mentor (R).

To install the Chess Mentor 1.1 Demo:

1. Your PC must be running Windows 3.1 or above, you must have at least
8MB of RAM installed, and you must have at least 8MB of free disk space.

2. Download the installation file (or files) into any convenient directory
on your computer by ONE of the following procedures:

   a) Download the _single_ file DEMOCM11.EXE (using the upper "download"
      Hypertext link). This is a self-extracting 1.98Mb installation file;
a special, empty, download directory is not required.

 - OR -

   b) Download _both_ of the installation files: DEMOCM11.EXE and DEMOCM11.W02
(using the lower pair of "download" Hypertext links). Both of these files
together are required to install the Demo, so they should be downloaded
into the same directory. Note that the DEMOCM11.EXE file in this procedure
is NOT the same as the single DEMOCM11.EXE file in procedure a) above, so
      don't get them confused.

The reason for having the choice of procedures a) or b) is as follows:

      - The single file, DEMOCM11.EXE, is convenient if you will be installing
the Demo on the same PC which does the download.

      - The pair of files, DEMOCM11.EXE & DEMOCM11.W02, are convenient if you
would like to put the Chess Mentor 1.1 Demo installer on a pair of
diskettes to install the Demo on another PC.

3. Use the Windows Program Manager File-Run command to run:

          <download dir>\DEMOCM11.EXE

depending on the directory used for the download. The same command is used
for the single file or the pair of files. Note that double clicking on
DEMOCM11.EXE in the File Manager can also be used to initiate the installation.

If the pair of files were each copied to a diskette, the Demo installation
is also quite standard. Insert the diskette containing DEMOCM11.EXE into
a diskette drive, and run it as above. When the installation program requests
the second diskette, remove the first diskette, insert the second diskette,
   and press the ENTER key.

4. The installation program will prompt you for a destination directory
name for the Chess Mentor files. The default directory is C:\CMDEMO11,
but another name may be specified if desired.

5. Follow the remaining instructions which will be displayed the screen to
   complete the installation.

6. The private Chess Mentor files will be copied to the specified destination
directory, the common system files will be copied to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
directory, and an INI file will be copied to the \WINDOWS directory.
A program group named "Chess Mentor 1.1" will be created, and a number
of program items will be placed in it. A full report of the installation
can be found in the file INSTALL.LOG in the Chess Mentor demo directory.

7. Unless SHARE must be installed, the Chess Mentor installation does NOT
modify any of your system files, including AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS,
SYSTEM.INI or WIN.INI. If SHARE must be installed, either a device driver
is added to SYSTEM.INI if Windows is in Enhanced mode, or a call to
SHARE.EXE is added to AUTOEXEC.BAT if Windows is in Standard mode.

8. If, at the end of the installation, a message is displayed indicating that
you should restart Windows, or reboot your PC, please perform the requested
action. Either SHARE was installed, or one or more system files were in use
during the installation, and the restart or reboot action is required to
fully complete the installation of the Chess Mentor Demo.

9. To start the Chess Mentor Demo, double click on the "Chess Mentor 1.1 Demo"
icon in the Chess Mentor 1.1 Program Group.
