Even though most of the Asus specs only seem to go as far as 166mhz,
they all seem to have 3.0x core with 66mhz external, so they *should*
support the P5-180 and P5-200, only time will answer this one.

Here is a paste from an earlier posting in this newsgroup that may
help you with the 2nd part of your question.....

Do NOT make these Absolutely *FLASE* posts.

Verifying our shipping records, shows above induvidual's package more
than *one* year ago was shipped out

USPS # 298640 (dt 6/10/*95*) (Athens P.O) and was received at
Johannesburg , South Africa (Package # II 015 378 624 ZA).

Jose CID , these *false* posts of yours are so misleading and utterly
baseless that we maybe forced to take up your repeated slander about us
in forums other than these. If you know the facts, post it , if not
please SHUT up.

Utterly *FALSE*.

The above original package USPS # 298640 (dt. 6/10/*95*) was received in
Johannesburg, South Africa ( Receipt # II 015 378 624 ZA)
To claim South African Postal Service bungled it is a *false* statement.

Jose CID , do not make these *FALSE* posts.

Yep. Never our customers though! The above induvidual has not posted for
over 6 months now. Wonder why?? :-)

Do NOT make false allegations about us. Saying we did not ship etc.
We have replied publicly to your *false* posts in this and another group.

So do not persist in your LIES. As seen below there are several hundred

| If we could compile a list of other motherboards known to have this BIOS,
| that'd be cool, because I've never seen any besides ASUS.

I have a noname Pentium motherboard, made in China, which has the NCR BIOS.
No word about this in the manual. The board is supposedly made by QDI, but
it's completely anonymous, so it's hard to tell.

I'd be happy to assist in maintaining a list of motherboards known to have
this BIOS. As a start, I've set up a Web page for this at:

	http://www.nethelp.no/scsi/ncrbios.html

| BTW, it probably actually matches the 2940 (no w) since 'w' means wide,
| and the SC200 isn't wide...

Unless you have several disks on your SCSI chain, it doesn't matter. With
one 4 GByte Seagate Barracuda, I get *no* measurable difference between a
2940UW and an SC200.

I have a problem with a new ASUS motherboard.

I just replaced my 386 Motherboard with a T2P4 and I can't initiate a
Ctrl-Alt-Del, Reset button, or software warmboot.

System:
CPU 133, 256k PBC, 16mb
Maxtor 71260AP 1,260Mb (which was initially setup using MAX*Blast/Disk
Manager 7.02 to compensate for the 386's Bios 528Mb Hard Drive limit.
Disk manager loads Dynamic Driveoverlay v7.12 at startup.)
Hitachi 4x CD-ROM using hit-ide.sys v1.06d
Soundblaster (OEM) 16bit sound card using CTCM ICU and Vibra16
software
U.S. Robotics 14,000 Sportster 14,400 data/fax (Internal)
CL 5446 PCI Video Card with 2mb

I get an error message on bootup as follows;

Update DMI Information
ERROR -- Can't Write ESCD

The T25I0105.awd Flash Bios is set-up on the board already and I have
Pflash v1.4 on diskette.

Any ideas what may be causing the problem?

Before I start screwing around with flashing the Bios (Does this ROM
chip allow this?) I would like to get some ideas?

Could the Legacy cards be causing the problem??? (as I saw mentioned
in this newsgroup?)

As much help as you give is appreciated,

Sincerely,

Beware: The following information is my private knowledge and not guaranteed to be correct or complete!

Chipset stepping: The stepping (revision) of the main two chips SiS496 and SiS497 must be B2 or higher to support PnP BIOS.
The 496 + 497 chips must have the signs NU + NS (B2), NV + NS (B3) or NV/(QT) + NU/(QR) (B4) printed on them. MU + MW (A4
stepping) does not support PnP BIOS. For details see http://asustek.asus.com.tw/Products/TB/486-0009.html .

Board revision: As far as I know PnP is supported by any board revision of PVI-486SP3 (if the chipset stepping is B2 or
higher). I successfully updated a board with revision 1.2.

Type of FLASH EPROM: The FLASH EPROM must be a SST PH29EE010 or a Winbond W29EE01 (programmable with +5V). Other +5V and all
+12V (e.g. Intel P28F010) types are not supported.

Flashing the EPROM: If the type of FLASH EPROM on the motherboard is correct the new BIOS version can be programmed
("flashed"). For this the DOS tools PFLASH.EXE must be used. The system must be started in real mode without any device
drivers, autoexec.bat or config.sys. So it is recommended to boot with an "empty" floppy. Carefully follow the instructions!
Else the system will not boot again! For flashing the binary file with the latest BIOS revision SI4I0305.AWD should be used.
This BIOS revision includes all fixes of the older revisions. PFLASH.EXE and SI4I0305.AWD can be downloaded from
http://www.asus.com.tw/Products/BIOS/bios-486.html or one of the ASUS mirror sites. For flashing the jumpers JP32/ JP33 MUST
be set to the positions 1&2/ 2&3 ("5V EPROM"). The diagram in the ASUS User's Manual (Revision 1.4) is wrong.

Buying a new FLASH EPROM: If the current FLASH EPROM is not of the correct type, the old EPROM shall be saved or something
went wrong during flashing, a new FLASH EPROM can be ordered from the national ASUS branch (see:
http://asustek.asus.com.tw/contact.html ; in Germany: ASUS Computer GmbH, Harkortstr. 25, 40880 Ratingen, Tel: 02102-445011,
Fax: 02102-442066, for about DM 27,00). It must be ordered "latest Plug & Play BIOS for PVI-486SP3" and will be shipped
within a few days. When you replace the old EPROM chip with the new one beware of static electricity! The jumpers JP32/ JP33
MUST be set to the positions 1&2/ 2&3 ("5V EPROM", the diagram in the ASUS User's Manual, Revision 1.4 is wrong) else PFLASH
will not recognize the correct type of FLASH EPROM and refuse flashing.

Plug & Play operation: At boot time the Plug & Play BIOS extension will configure all PnP cards. To do so it must
write-access the ESCD area of the FLASH EPROM. For this the jumpers JP32/ JP33 MUST stay in the positions 1&2/ 2&3 ("5V
EPROM"). The chipset together with the PnP BIOS will write protect the FLASH EPROM during normal operation. For details read
http://asustek.asus.com.tw/FTP/ASUS/TechInfo/flash-pnpbios.txt. If there is something wrong with the type of the FLASH EPROM
or the jumper settings the PnP BIOS will report "ERROR -- Can't Write ESCD" while booting. To configure non-PnP ISA cards for
DOS or Windows 3.1x use the driver DWCFGMG.SYS and one of the ICU tools (ICU.EXE or WINICU.EXE) from Intel (The latest
version is 1.44 and can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.intel.com/pub/support/oem_developer/motherbd or from
ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/hw/vendors/intel/support/oem_developer/motherbd in Europe). They directly save the configuration data
to the FLASH EPROM. So the File ESCD.RF in the root directory is no longer used. If you are interested in Plug-&-Play
principles you may read some articles from Intel (http://www.intel.com/ial/plugplay) or download the PnP specifications from
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/drg/Plug-and-Play/Pnpspecs for details.

Hi -

I own 4 ASUS PCI/I-P54SP4 90 MHz Pentium mainboards
with 8MB RAM that I would like to upgrade to 16MB.
Each machine contains 2 - 4MB double-sided simms.
When I took 2 simms from one machine and installed
them into another, the system only recognized
the 8MB of original memory. I have the RN11/12
resister set to double sided.

According to the manual on page 2-7, 4MB simms must be
single sided.

Is there a way for me to upgrade my machines to 16MB
and preserve my current investment in memory?
To get my machines to 16 MB will I have to replace
my double-sided 4MB simms with single sided 4MB simms
or double-sided 8MB simms?

Thank You
