                      SI METRICS VOLUME 1 & VOLUME 2

Vol.I Covers a brief History of the origins of Measure and seeks to define
Measure. It proceeds with a course on Linear Measure with Text & Graphics.

Vol.II Contains the TEST for Linear Measure. It has a Menu with an option
to proceed to the Liquid and Volume Measure Tutorial. It ends with a Review of
Celcius and Fahrenheit basics. Although not a part of Metrics, it is a logical
point to introduce Temperature Measure.

The Menu displayed in Part 2 enables the selection of TEST [A] or TEST [B].

Selecting TEST [A] from the MENU will launch the Built-In Test Program.

Selecting TEST [B] from the MENU will launch a SUPPLEMENTARY test MODULE
when and ONLY when a DISK with an Alternative Test Module has been placed
in Drive A:

The program will seek and display the Alternate Test without delay.

This makes it possible for the Teacher to select from various tests which may
become available or which are customized to meet some specific need of the
Teacher or School, while leaving the Master Program intact on the Hard Drive
of the computer.

If computers are used in close proximity, the Teacher can select alternate
Tests for adjoining computers. This protects the integrity of the Test Scores
from being questioned.

It is strongly recommended that these Programs be run from a Hard Drive in
a classroom application due to the slow read of the Graphics from the floppy.

Color is used to emphasise specific words or delineate concepts, which
enhances comprehension, an option which in book form may be cost prohibitive.
Use of the program is therefore less effective with a Black & White Monitor.

                              TEST SCORES

The program incorporates an automatic Test Score function. This does not
require any user intervention. Test results are sent to a file named GRADE.OUT
on the same drive as the program is being run from. If this file does not
exist, it will be automatically created. For this reason the program will
refuse to run from a Floppy Disk if it's write protect tab is in place. The
files on the floppy disk as supplied, are protected with the +R Attribute.

The GRADE.OUT file will record a Date & Time Stamp, the Name of the Pupil,
identify the question, provide the Answers given and whether right or wrong.
If more than one try is permitted, the Answer for a first and second try are
recorded, providing the Teacher with an insight to the Pupil's problem area.

To obtain a Print-Out of the Test Scores, from the C:\> Prompt Just type:

                                                  COPY CAT\GRADE.OUT PRN
                                                      [press Enter]

If working from the floppy at the A: or B: Prompt just type:

                                                   COPY GRADE.OUT PRN
                                                      [press Enter]
Be sure the Printer is ON and has paper loaded.

To View the Test Scores on the Monitor, from the C: Drive change to the
CAT Directory and at the \CAT:> prompt type:

                                                       GETGRADE
                                                     [press Enter]

If working from the floppy, at the A: or B: prompt just type:

                                                      GETGRADE
                                                    [press Enter]

If No tests have been taken, the file GRADE.OUT will not exist. If you try
to view it with the GETGRADE Command you will get an error message.

To avoid wasting valuable disk space, time and paper printing out redundant
scores, the contents of the Grade.Out file should be deleted when you are done
with it. To do this, from the C:\> prompt just type:

                                                     DEL CAT\GRADE.OUT
                                                       [press Enter]
From the A: or B: Floppy drive type: DEL GRADE.OUT

Note do not confuse the grade capsule displayed to the student at the
completion of the test with the far more detailed Grade.Out file.

                          RUNNING THE PROGRAMS

If these programs have not yet been installed in your classroom and you would
like to check them out from the floppy disk, proceed as follows:

To run part 1 LINEAR MEASURE from the floppy disk, just type: START

To run part 2 LIQUID MEASURE & VOLUME or to review the test, type: RUN

If TURBO is user selectable on your computer, please set it in that mode or
the program may take a very long time to load.

To install these programs from the Floppy to the Hard Drive, proceed as
follows: Insert the Floppy in drive A: or B:

At the C:> prompt type: MD CAT [Press Enter]
This will MAKE a DIRECTORY named Cat.

At the C:> prompt type: CD CAT [Press Enter]
This will CHANGE the DIRECTORY to C:\CAT>

At the C:\CAT> prompt type: COPY A:*.* [or B: as the case may be]
                                                           [Press Enter]
All the files will be copied to the Hard Drive.

If you wish to create a Bat. file, the path & file of #1 is CAT METRIC1
                                       " " " #2 is CAT METRIC2

Please Note: There is A Space not a slash between the word Cat and Metric1
or Cat and Metric2 in ANY implemention of these programs.

You may use the Built-In batch file which is really for the floppies, if this
is easier for you by changing to the CAT directory with the CD CAT command.
Then simply type RUN or START at the C:\CAT> Prompt.

The conventional way to run the programs from the C:\CAT> prompt would be:
C:\CAT>CAT METRIC1 [enter] or C:\CAT>CAT METRIC2 [Enter]

To make a Print-Out of this Text, from the A: or B: Drive Prompt type:
COPY READIT PRN [Press Enter]
Make sure your Printer is on and has paper loaded.
