                                KITTY123
                            4/95 by Bozo Bob

Kitty123 is a DOS-based educational game for children ages 3-6, intended
to help teach/reinforce basic number skills. To run KITTY123, make sure
you have the following in the same directory:

     KITTY123.EXE
     KITTY123.SHP
     KITTY123.VOX

Then just run KITTY123. NOTE - KITTY123 assumes you have a video card
which supports the 256 color VGA or MCGA mode (most do). In order to
hear the voice, you need a SoundBlaster sound card or compatible, with
the /latest/ versions of the sound drivers installed on your computer.
These are CTSB.SYS and CTMM.SYS (which should be loaded at boot) and
CT-VOICE.DRV version 3.05 or higher. If you don't have these (and
unfortunately most people don't), you will need to contact your sound
card manufacturer (such as Creative Labs). Sorry about that, but this
is the tradeoff when using the version 2 SBK developer kit (sigh). If
anyone knows a different way, I would be happy to know about it (see
E-Mail number below).

MAIN MENU
---------
All functions in KITTY123 are controlled by the keyboard. When you run
the program, you will see the main menu. It has 3 main options you can
choose between, plus two game options for greater versatility.

1, 2, 3 - Type either 1, 2, or 3 to run Part 1, Part 2, or Part 3 (all
choices are in pink). Before running one of the Parts, use the LEFT
ARROW to select that a GIRL is playing, and the RIGHT ARROW to select
that a BOY is playing (the selected gender will be highlighted). Use
the UP ARROW to select a number range of 1-20 for older or more advanced
children, and the DOWN ARROW key to select a number range of 1-10 for
younger children (the selected choice will be displayed). Use the ESC
key to exit the program.

PART ONE - Recognition and Repetition
-------------------------------------
Kitty is thinking of a number. Kitty will say a random number from 1-10
or 1-20 (depending on the range you selected), and a thought bubble will
be displayed showing that number. Simply enter the number and it will
be displayed. Kitty will verbally and visually display success or
failure. Note that two digit numbers require that two digits be
entered, but one digit numbers only require one digit. You never need
to press ENTER. Play as long as the child desires. Press ESC to return
to the main menu.

PART TWO - Sequential Numbering
-------------------------------
Kitty wants to climb the stairs. Simply type the next number in order
from 1-10 or 1-20 (depending on the range you chose), and Kitty will
advance to the next step. If the next number entered is incorrect,
Kitty will respond with the correct number and wait before climbing. If
Kitty reaches the top, a verbal reward is spoken. Press ESC to return
to the main menu early.

PART THREE - Counting Objects
-----------------------------
Kitty wants to count the number of little kitties displayed. A random
number of kitties from 1-10 or 1-20 (depending on the range you
selected) will be shown. Kitty will ask how many there are. Simply
enter the correct number. Kitty rewards success or failure audibly and
visibly as in Part One. Note that under each little kitty is its number
to help aid in the counting process. Try to stress that the child point
and count rather than just looking at the last number. Press ESC to
return to the main menu.

MISCELLANEOUS

KITTY123 was written in Turbo C++, using the Creative Labs Sound
Developer Kit (version 2), and the WYOG 256 color graphics library. It
is distributed as AnyWare (aka public domain). Hope you like it and
find it useful. If you wish to, please leave any messages to 76270,660
