1. Preliminary

The Numeric Keypad Tutor is designed for people whose work requires
them:

(1) to key in large quantities of numbers, and;

(2) who need to reach a fair degree of accuracy and speed in a
relatively short time.

The system is easy to use, with a screen keypad and progressive
keying patterns to help trainees master the numeric keypad simply
and quickly.

FEATURES

1. Finger Placements
A special window, which can be viewed at any time, explains the
method of keypad usage.

2. Progressive Levels
The system is divided into three Levels: Beginners, Intermediate
and Advanced. Each Level consists of 12 Phases. The trainee
must gain 100% accuracy in each Phase before proceeding to the
next Phase. When Phase 12 is completed successfully, the trainee
moves to the next Level.

3. Keying History
The application keeps a keying history for each Phase. Trainees
can monitor their own progress.

4. Trainer Monitoring
If need be, Trainers can monitor each Trainee's progress by
viewing their keying history, and offering appropriate advice.

5. Keying data can be changed
If a particular numeric format needs to be given preference, then
Trainers can create their own keying patterns for Trainees.

6. Work-related title for the application
The application can be given a title to which Trainees can
relate more effectively.

2. FILE LIST

Application Files:
NK1.EXE
NKB1.DAT
NKI1.DAT
NKA1.DAT
NK1.HLP

Application Icon:
NK1.ICO

Application System Files:
THREED.VBX
MSAFINX.DLL
VBRUN300.DLL

Application Documentation:
README.TXT
TRE_MAN.DOC
TRR_MAN.DOC

The VBX and DLL files are Microsoft products which are
distributed gratis by Microsoft. Ideally, they should be put
in a system directory in the user path, and not included in
the directory of the application. If this is not possible,
they can be left in the application's directory. (On a
standalone PC, for example, you would put these 3 files in
c:\windows\system. On a LAN, they would go into the directory
holding all other DLLs.)

VBRUN300.DLL is not included in the package. It can be
downloaded from most Bulletin Boards or from the Microsoft
forums on CompuServe.

TRE_MAN.DOC is in Word 2 format, and is the Trainee Manual.

TRR_MAN.DOC is in Word 2 format, and is the Trainers Manual.

3. STANDALONE PC INSTALLATION

1. Create a directory for the application, e.g., NKT.

2. Put these files into the directory:

NK1.EXE
NKB1.DAT
NKI1.DAT
NKA1.DAT
NK1.HLP
THREED.VBX
MSAFINX.DLL
VBRUN300.DLL

(See note above regarding the VBX and DLL files.)

3. From File Manager, double click on NK1.EXE.

4. The application will detect that SetUp needs to be run.
Click on Yes to run SetUp.

5. SetUp will ask for:

	1. How User Access is to be, and what platform.
Click on Standalone PC and then on Ok.

	2. The date format used in your country. Click
on format and then on Ok.

	3. If you want to give the application a special
title, you can put in a title or accept the
one that appears, Numeric Keypad Tutor.

	4. Enter details for the Initial Trainer. Note
the ID number that will appear - 1. This
must be used in conjunction with the Password
	   when accessing the application.

6. SetUp will create some files and then exit. It does
not write to any files outside its own directory.

7. Set up the application's icon in a folder as you would any
other window application. The activating file is NK1.EXE.

NOTE: Do not copy installed files from a PC to a LAN, or
vice-versa. Always load the original files and begin by
double-clicking on NK1.EXE in File Manager. This will force
SetUp to run, and the appropriate choices can be made.

4. LAN INSTALLATION

The application has been designed to run on medium to large LANs.

The OS software of these LANs usually recognise a user through
a unique Login ID which the user keys in when logging onto the
LAN e.g., Microsoft's LANMAN, LANs connected to IBM mainframe
systems, larger Novell installations etc.

The OS of smaller LANs may not have this facility, e.g., Windows
for Workgroups.

If your LAN does not have a system of user recognition and access
through a User Login ID, you can choose the Password and ID
method. Each user creates their own Password and is given an ID
unique to them. This enables the application to recognise who the
user is when they access the application.

1. Create a directory for the application, e.g., NKT, on a
selected server. The space required is unlikely to go beyond
500 Ks.

2. Put these files into the directory:

NK1.EXE
NKB1.DAT
NKI1.DAT
NKA1.DAT
NK1.HLP
THREED.VBX
MSAFINX.DLL
VBRUN300.DLL

(See note above regarding the VBX and DLL files.)

3. From File Manager, double click on NK1.EXE.

4. The application will detect that SetUp needs to be run.
Click on Yes to run SetUp.

5. SetUp will ask for:

	1. How User Access & Recognition is to be.
Users can get access through their Login ID
held as a DOS environment variable; or, they
can input an ID and Password unique to them
and the application. Click on the required
button. If uncertain what is meant by User
	   Login IDs, consult IT staff.

	2. The date format used in your country. Click
on format and then on Ok.

	3. If you want to give the application a special
title, you can put in a title or accept the
one that appears, Numeric Keypad Tutor. This
can be changed at any time through the Trainer's
	   Menu.

	4. Enter details for the Initial Trainer. If a
unique ID and Password has been chosen as
the method of access in (1), then note
the ID number that will appear - 1. This
must be used in conjunction with the Password
	   when accessing the application. Neither
Passwords or unique IDs are needed if the
method of access is through a LAN User Login
	   ID.

6. SetUp will create some files and then exit. It does
not write to any files outside its own directory.

7. Set up the application's icon in window folders as you would
any other window application. The activating file is NK1.EXE.
An icon, NK1.ICO, is included. The icon is also embedded in
NK1.EXE.

NOTE: Do not copy installed files from a PC to a LAN, or
vice-versa. Always load the original files and begin by
double-clicking on NK1.EXE in File Manager. This will force
SetUp to run, and the appropriate choices can be made.

5. ACCESSING THE TRAINER'S MENU

Once SetUp has been run, and access gained to the application,
the Trainer's Menu can be accessed by the initial Trainer
whose details were input during SetUp.

The only way to access this menu is through FILE/TRAINERS
in the Trainee's Menu.

In this menu choice, a button appears for Trainers which
does not appear for Trainees.

It is labelled Trainers Menu.

Trainers can click on this button to gain access to their menu.

Refer to the Trainer's Manual, TRR_MAN.DOC, for information on
the Trainer's Menu.

7. SOURCE CODING

As corporate training needs differ, it is recognised that changes
to the coding may be desirable or necessary.

The coding is available for $20, which covers the cost of getting
it to you.

You can make changes, or arrange with a Visual Basic programmer,
to make changes to the coding.

Any changes made are the user's responsibility.

I regret that I am not available to make or offer advice on coding
changes.

The coding can be obtained by sending name and postal address to:

Peter Glasson,
P.O. Box 429,
Burwood,
Sydney,
NSW 2134,
Australia.

US$20 cash (or your country's currency equivalent) should be
enclosed to cover the cost of disk, packing and air-mail postage.

Please do not send a personal or company check, or an overseas
bank check, as bank and government charges will be more than $20
to lodge and process it. If you want a paper trail, have the Post
Office send your letter as registered air-mail.

If you want an alternative to cash, then use an International
Money Order from the Post Office. $5 should be added to cover Post
Office charges.

No responsibility will be accepted for the failure of any payment
to arrive.

The disk contains the following directories and contents:

APPLICATION - Application files
SOURCE - Forms, modules, coding
HELP - Original Word documents, compilation files.
MANUALS - Original Word 2.00 documents.

While you are free to use any of the above material for the
purposes of modifying the application to suit your own or your
organisation's needs, the application and coding are copyright.

The coding cannot be used to sell the application under another
name.
