ALANA'S READER is a Windows 3.1 compatible program for the easy construction and playback of interactive books, primarily for children learning to read. Using .bmp and .wav files provided by the adult user, a child can use the mouse to scroll through the pages of an electronic book, listening to the text read as the pages are turned. When the child clicks on selected words listed next to the picture, the words will be pronounced. A sound card is needed to play and record .wav files. Pictures can be imported from files created by a scanner, a drawing program, or clipart. Books are created by the adult user double clicking on picture or word list areas to add or delete pages or words, or change the .bmp or .wav files used by the program. Multiple books can be created in separate subdirectories. A Windows Help file is provided, which can be opened by pressing the F1 key at any time while the program is running. The shareware version is limited to three page books; the registered version ($10) has no limit. The registration form can be printed from the Help file.
