Overview
--------

The disk included with this application note contains a conversion
utility to convert MultiMate documents for use with Microsoft Word for
MS-DOS version 5.0 or 5.5. The converter provides support for
conversion from MultiMate version 3.3, MultiMate Advantage(TM),
MultiMate Advantage II(TM), and MultiMate version 4.0 to Microsoft
rich-text format (RTF). Conversion from Word for MS-DOS to the various
versions of MultiMate is not supported.

Installation and Conversion
---------------------------

To use the converter, first copy the MM-RTF.EXE file from the enclosed
disk to your Word for MS-DOS program directory (usually C:\WORD), or
to the disk containing the MultiMate document that you want to
convert. To copy this file to your Word for MS-DOS program directory,
insert the enclosed GC0546 disk in drive A and type

   copy a:\mm_rtf.exe <location>

where <location> is the path to your Word for MS-DOS program directory
For example:

   copy a:\mm_rtf.exe c:\word

To copy this file to the disk containing the MultiMate document that
you want to convert, insert the enclosed GC0546 disk in drive A and
insert the disk containing the MultiMate document in drive B and type
the following:

   copy a:\mm_rtf.exe b:\

To convert MultiMate documents to Word for MS-DOS format, start the
converter at the MS-DOS command prompt by typing:

   mm_rtf <SourceFile> <DestinationFile> <switch>

<SourceFile> is the name of the document to be converted. The document
name can include a path; otherwise, the document must be in the
current directory. Multiple input and output filenames and/or
wildcards to enable batch conversion are not supported.

<DestinationFile> is the filename you want to give the converted
document; the name must differ from the <SourceFile> name. You can
include a path.

<Switch> is a variable that tells the converter the version of the
MultiMate program you want to convert from. The following table shows
the switches to use for each MultiMate format:

          Word Processor Switch
          -------------- ------

          MultiMate 3.3 mm

          MultiMate Advantage mma

          MultiMate Advantage II mma2

          MultiMate 4.0 mm4

For example, to convert a MultiMate 4.0 file named PHONELST.DOX to RTF
format so it can be opened in Word for MS-DOS, type:

   mm_rtf phonelst.dox phonelst.doc mm4

NOTE: The MM_RTF.EXE file must be in the current directory or path.

Once you have started the converter by pressing ENTER, it will convert
the MultiMate document and prompt you when the conversion is complete.
You can now open the document from RTF format into Word for MS-DOS by
choosing Transfer Load in Word for MS-DOS 5.0 or Open from the File
menu in Word for MS-DOS 5.5 and specifying the <DestinationFile>
filename used above.

our Product Support Services technicians will be glad to assist you.
