WORDPERFECT 5.1 FOR DOS PRINTING

TROUBLESHOOTING
1.  Check WP51 General Troubleshooting, and then check the following:
2.  Check Printer selection (Shift-F7) to make sure it matches the
    actual printer you have.
3.  Check View Document.  Does the document look correct?
4.  Try to duplicate the problem from a blank screen.
5.  Turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on and try again. 
6.  When the printer is turned on, does it indicate that it is ready to
    receive data (i.e., On-Line or Ready light should be lit)?
7.  Exit WP, come back in and try again.
8.  Try selecting the Standard printer driver.
9.  Check Location of Files to make sure WP is pointing to the correct
    printer directory (Shift-F1, 6, 4).
10. Print the PRINTER.TST document that shipped with WP51.  Does it print ok?
11. Rename the .PRS file and reselect the printer in WP.
12. Print the file to disk then copy to the port from DOS.  To do this, change
    the printer port temporarily in WP to a filename (e.g. A:FILENAME), then
    print.  Be sure to change your port back to the original selection after
    printing.  Next, at the DOS prompt, enter COPY/B FILENAME PORT (e.g.
    COPY/B A:FILENAME LPT1).  Does the document print correctly?
13. Soft Fonts:
    a.  Do they download properly?
    b.  Are they marked with a plus(+) or asterisk(*)?
    c.  Have you checked the font test printout on the printer?
    d.  Check path for downloadable fonts to make sure it is correct (Shift-F7,
        S, 3, 6).
    e.  Try using another font.
    f.  Check Reveal Codes (Alt-F3) for incorrect codes.
14. Cartridge Fonts:
    a.  Make sure the font cartridge is inserted correctly into the printer.
    b.  Make sure the correct font cartridge is selected in WP (Shift-F7, S,
        3, 4).
15. If the printer does not respond at all, try these additional steps:
    a.  Print from DOS.
    b.  Check cable and try another one, if available.
    c.  Check port selection (Shift-F7, S, highlight printer, 3, 2,).
    d.  Check printer control (Shift-F7, 4) for error messages.

REQUIRED INFORMATION FOR REPORTING A PROBLEM
1.  Version and release date of WP (press F3 at WP document screen).
2.  Printer driver date and definition used (press Shift-F7, S, H).
3.  A complete description of the problem and keystrokes to duplicate the
    problem.  Include results of all troubleshooting steps.  Include any
    situations where the problem does not occur or "work arounds" that
    eliminate the problem.
4.  Hardware information including computer brand/model, base memory,
    expanded memory, graphics card and monitor type/model, math co-processor,
    type of keyboard.
5.  Version and type of DOS.
6.  Exact contents of your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files.
7.  Hard disk size and capacity.
8.  List the fonts that are used, including manufacturer, typeface, size, and
    symbol set. (i.e Bitstream Swiss 8pt (PC8)).
9.  If a soft font problem, list how the fonts are marked (+ or *) and
    the path for downloadable fonts (Shift-F7, S, 3, 6).
10. Printer brand name and model.
11. Sheetfeeder brand name and model (if applicable).
12. If a cartridge font problem, list the brand name and model of the font
    cartridge being used.

MATERIALS TO BE SENT IN (UPLOADED) WITH A PROBLEM REPORT
1.  A document file that duplicate the problem (if applicable).
2.  Include copies of your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files.
3.  Please include your full name, address, phone number, WordPerfect
    license number, and size of diskettes your computer needs (3" or 5").
    You may send this information privately in a Comment to Sysop (use the
    "C" command on the BBS) or in an uploaded README file.
4.  NOTE--PLEASE READ:  Make sure you zip (compress) all requested files
    into one .ZIP file before upload to facilitate processing.  This will
    also ensure file integrity as well as decrease uploading time.  For
    more information about zipping (compressing) files, please read
    Bulletin 21 or download NEWUSER.ZIP.
