WORDPERFECT LOOKS INSIDE
One of the most exciting--and most challenging--facets of the
software industry is its tendency to change. It seems a product
that meets 95 percent of customer needs one moment meets only 75
percent of the needs six months later; and corporate strategies
that seemed right in line with the pulse of the industry just
yesterday have become less effective today.

As a software vendor, the only way to stay in touch with the
marketplace is to constantly re-evaluate our programs and
directions. We've recently done just that. In this issue, we
want to share with our users the corporate conclusions we have
drawn after another round of self-appraisal. We recognize that
your comments have led us to many of these conclusions and we
thank you for the honest and helpful ideas.

Corporate Structure
We've expanded our board or directors to accommodate the needs of
our growing company and the changing industry. The board of
directors now consists of five individuals (see photo), and an
Executive Committee of eight has been formed to assist WPCorp's
president, Alan Ashton, with corporate policy and direction
setting. The Executive Committee will give us a broader base for
decision-making which will be more representative of all areas of
the company.

Product Development
Our goal is to develop the finest software in the world.
Organizational refinements and innovative development techniques
are paying big dividends in the speed, efficiency, and
coordination of our software development. We are intent on
providing compatible products across platforms.

Customer Support
We will continue our commitment to provide the finest, most
responsive customer support in the industry. With more than 850
operators in our Customer Support Department, we dedicate several
million dollars a month to this service. We will look carefully
at the level of support we provide and how we can improve to meet
changing market needs.

Marketing, Sales, Communication
We are planning more aggressive marketing and sales strategies.
We are excited by the market possibilities that exist and hope to
find creative ways to give all of our customers the best possible
access to our software products.

Part of our campaign of "aggressive" marketing is an improved
flow of information both to and from our customers. We are
looking for greater contact with our customers--contact which is
frequent, professional, and competent.

We are increasing our efforts to listen to customers and
pinpoint exactly what we can do as a company including adjusting
policies and programs as needed.

With the rapid changes of our industry and with the often
confusing signals in the marketplace, we understand more than
ever the need to openly communicate the timely, strategic
information necessary for informed, long-term decisions.

Worldwide Plans
Our plans are going to take a more worldwide approach than they
ever have before. We will consider the multi-lingual user and
the multi-national corporation from the very outset of product
design and marketing strategy. Global plans from the beginning
will allow for more efficient international applications down the
road.

The ultimate objective of all these plans is to provide the best
product and support in the industry. We strive to keep our
customer's requests central in our decision-making. We know
that's the only way for us to remain strong in this ever-changing
and exciting world of software development.
                 --The Board of Directors

WPCORP, IBM SIGN AGREEMENT ON AS/400
The great news for AS/400 users is that a full-featured word
processor has finally arrived on the scene in the form of
WordPerfect for AS/400.

"We're excited," says Dan Lunt, VP of Market Development at
WordPerfect Corporation, "to see the world's most popular word
processor available on the world's most popular mid-range
computer."

Several problems are now solved for AS/400 users.

First, they now have a program for full-featured word processing.
In the past, they had only a small text editor that wasn't
compatible with any of the major word processing packages.

Second, WordPerfect Corporation has signed over to IBM the
distribution and marketing rights for the product. As a result,
WordPerfect for AS/400 is packaged with each machine, thus,
computer buyers receive their AS/400 with all the necessary
software installed and ready to run. With a user base of over
150,000 systems, and an average of 20 terminals attached to each,
the AS/400 system embraces hundreds of thousands of users all
over the world.

And third, WPCorp will offer our trademark customer support--an
absolute must for the thousands of new users who probably have
had no prior experience with WordPerfect. WPCorp retains
responsibility for development of interim and new releases to
keep AS/400 users current with our WordPerfect enhancements.

RIGHT-TO-LEFT EDITING WITH HEBREW LANGUAGE MODULE
Two months ago, when we began shipping our new Hebrew Language
Module, our distributor in Israel sold out all 300 copies the
first day. The following day, we received an order in excess of
3,000 units! Public response has been very positive and interest
in this module has exceeded any other we've produced so far.

When installed with your existing copy of WordPerfect 5.1, the
Hebrew Language Module is a powerful addition to our family of
language modules because it accommodates right-to-left text entry
(necessary for writing Hebrew).

But our language module goes a step further. It allows for the
insertion of left-to-right English into Hebrew text and vice
versa. It also allows for Hebrew text entry in columns, tables,
boxes, etc. In fact, you can switch languages any number of
times in the same document.

The Hebrew Language Module comes with installation and usage
instructions, Hebrew soft keyboards, decals for your keyboard,
screen and soft fonts, and a hardware security key. And most of
the popular WordPerfect 5.1 features are supported. Stop by your
dealer's for a demonstration, or call us for more information
(see page 19 for telephone numbers).

LETTERPERFECT FOR MAC OFFERS MORE FOR LESS
Good news for Macintosh owners who have been looking for a
powerful word processor in a scaled-down size: LetterPerfect for
Macintosh is scheduled to ship this month.

LetterPerfect offers all of the features needed for creating
everyday memos, letters, and reports. It will run on any
Macintosh computer, including the PowerBook and Quadra.
LetterPerfect is also System 7 savvy, and Mac supporters know
what that means--it means taking advantage of Publish and
Subscribe, TrueType, Apple Events, and Balloon Help.

If you are already a WordPerfect 2.1 for Mac user, you'll
appreciate LetterPerfect for Mac's ruler, columns, stationary,
speller, thesaurus, and a whole list of features your dealer will
be happy to demonstrate.

What about converting files from LetterPerfect to WordPerfect
2.1?

Files created with LetterPerfect are fully compatible with WP2.1
for Mac--they are exactly the same file format. All
the conversion resources of WordPerfect 2.1 are included so you
can import files in a variety of formats such as WordPerfect
5.0/5.1, Microsoft Word, MacWrite II, RTF, and XTND.

CONVERTPERFECT MAKES FILE CONVERSION FAST, EASY
So, you're ready to switch to WordPerfect for your word
processor, but wonder how to convert all of your text files into
compatible WordPerfect files. Is there a way to accomplish this
without retyping everything?

With ConvertPerfect, the answer is yes.

ConvertPerfect 1.0 began shipping in February, and will convert
DOS and Windows word processing files to and from WordPerfect 5.1
DOS, or any other of 40-plus supported formats. You can even run
ConvertPerfect as a batch file--numerous files can be converted
at the same time. Once you select a file for conversion,
ConvertPerfect will automatically detect what format the file is
in. This helps you if you don't know which word processor was
used to create the document.

More than 30 DOS and five Windows file formats are supported,
including IBM DCA/RTF, Microsoft Word for Windows, WordStar, Ami
Professional, Multimate, Navy DIF, WordPerfect 4.2/5.0, and other
common word processing standards.

Using ConvertPerfect is easy. Any time you have a problem,
simply press F3 for help. And yes, you may use your mouse.

While ConvertPerfect will help people move from other word
processors to WordPerfect, it can also help you convert any of
the supported file formats to any other format.

ConvertPerfect 1.0
Ship Date 2/21/92
Retail $49.US/$59.CAN
Requirements: IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/1, PS/2, or compatible; 384K
free memory, one floppy drive at least 360K.

TRUE WYSIWYG WITH WORDPERFECT 5.1 GUI FOR UNIX
WordPerfect 5.1 GUI for UNIX (WP5.1 GUI UNIX) is now in "beta
testing," the final phase of testing before we release the
product for sale. As of this writing, we plan to ship it during
the second quarter of 1992. GUI means Graphical User Interface,
that is, the graphical representation of software tools on your
display screen.

WP5.1 GUI UNIX should make a lot of UNIX users happy, because
WP5.1 GUI does for UNIX what WordPerfect for Windows does for
DOS--instead of characters displayed on screen, you get a
graphical representation of characters ("What you see is what you
get").

But there's more.

WP5.1 GUI UNIX lets you zoom in and out from your text, and even
edit in the zoomed mode. For example, if you had a graphic that
appeared to bump up against your text, you could zoom in and take
a closer look (zoom range is 25% to 200%). If things were too
close, you could hyphenate the necessary words, move or re-size
the graphic, or do anything else to resolve the problem without
leaving zoom mode.

Zoom mode also lets users adjust for differences in display
quality. Because WP5.1 GUI UNIX runs under Motif, and there are
dozens of Motif-compatible monitors with varying qualities of
display, Zoom lets you enlarge or shrink your text, as needed, to
clean up the display. And WP5.1 GUI UNIX offers a Ruler, Button
Bar, and menus similar to those in WPWin.

WP5.1 GUI UNIX includes many of the popular features of
WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS. Check with your local dealer for news
of its release, or call Information Services if you have any
questions.

WORDPERFECT IN JAPANESE
We began shipping Japanese WordPerfect 5.1J for NEC PC-9800
series computers on March 26, 1992. WP5.1J supports the full
Japanese Industry Standard (JIS) set of Japanese characters and
is the first WordPerfect product to support two-byte characters.
Two-byte character support is essential for languages such as
Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.

WP5.1J includes a front-end processor which translates
phonetically entered text into Japanese characters. The
processor allows you to manipulate combinations of Japanese
characters before entering them into your document. Support for
the most popular front-end processors such as ATOK (versions 6
and 7), EGBridge, VJE-8, and IBM MKK is also included.

An Attached Text feature allows you to attach phonetic readings
to Japanese characters, indicating correct pronunciation. The
phonetic readings will remain with the Japanese characters no
matter where you place the characters in your document. WP5.1J
also allows for both horizontal and vertical printing.

WP5.1J will also be released in the next several weeks for
Toshiba J-3100, IBM Japan PS/55, and DOS/V computers.

TEST DRIVE: WORDPERFECT WORKS
Terry Bruning - Editor, WordPerfect Reseller Report

I write for fun (and for a living!), and as an officer in the
Reserves, I have to keep a mountain of data organized and easily
accessible. So when I heard of WordPerfect Works, I figured I
was perfectly suited to give it a thorough test drive.

Be warned--this is an unabashed plug for WordPerfect Works. The
product contains the top entry-level word processor on the market
(LetterPerfect), a Lotus-compatible spreadsheet, a powerful
graphics editor, a database, communications software, and fax
capability. I think you'll agree that it is well worth the
hundred bucks or so "street price" that you'll spend on it at the
software store in the mall.

First Step
When I installed WordPerfect Works, it took just over 4 megabytes
of hard disk space. By comparison, about the same amount of
space is required for a full WordPerfect 5.1 installation. Of
course, I didn't expect to get the full power of WordPerfect 5.1,
but most of the time I didn't need it. I expected to use Works
to do some basic word processing, organize data, draw some
pictures, and print documents.

Getting Around in Works
I installed Works so that LetterPerfect would come up whenever I
started the Works program. With LetterPerfect on the screen, I
pulled up this article, which I had begun writing in WordPerfect
5.1. It came in without a hitch.

The next thing I noticed was the menu bar across the top of
LetterPerfect. I wondered, what's this "Run" option? I clicked
on Run with the mouse, and a list of all my Works applications
appeared--Spreadsheet, Graphics Editor, Database, Communications,
and the Shell Menu. And then to see what would happen, I clicked
on Spreadsheet.

After a few seconds, Spreadsheet appeared on my screen. Did I
lose my document in LetterPerfect? I went back to the Run
option, clicked on LetterPerfect--and my LetterPerfect document
appeared on the screen, right where I had left off! Nice.

Building a Document
Typing along in the document, I got a sudden urge to illustrate
another powerful feature of WordPerfect Works--that is, I wanted
to make all of the programs work at the same time. And so, I
clicked on Run, and selected Spreadsheet.

What with getting married pretty soon, I haven't got as much
money to blow on all sorts of frivolous expenses, so I decided a
budget was in order. First, to see how my projected post-
marriage expenses might stack up, I built a spreadsheet showing
some general expense categories. I also found that the
spreadsheet could display this information in the form of a
chart. I could choose from line, bar, area, or pie charts--I
selected pie chart. The spreadsheet let me choose the colors for
the wedges and the fonts for the titles, too.

To see the chart as a graphic, I had to go into Graphics Editor.
Using the mouse, I saved the chart to the Clipboard, clicked on
Run, and selected Graphics Editor (the DrawPerfect application in
WPWorks). I retrieved the Clipboard, and my pie chart quickly
appeared in Graphics Editor.

Graphics Editor is a pretty powerful tool on its own. I found
the Graphics Editor didn't limit me to just editing graphics, but
with the included drawing tools, I could create drawings or
modify DrawPerfect graphics and text images. However, to create
spreadsheet graphics, such as pie and bar charts, I found I had
to use the spreadsheet.

On a second look, I noticed a term that appeared on the chart
that I had written and now didn't like: "Consumer Debt"--sounded
too stiff. While still in Graphics Editor, I did some text
editing and changed the legend to the non-threatening "Misc Fixed
Exp." I could have also changed the legend by going back to the
spreadsheet.

Then I wanted to drop my chart into my LetterPerfect document. I
saved the chart to the Clipboard, clicked on Run, selected
LetterPerfect, and retrieved the Clipboard. I didn't have to
create a graphics box for my chart-- Works automatically created
one for me and put my chart in it. Of course, the text in my
article wrapped around it. To change the location and size of
the box, I simply pulled down the Graphics menu. Simple,
elegant, and powerful, I thought.

Database
WordPerfect Works contains some predefined databases to which I
gained access from the Run menu. A click on Address Book, and I
could type in the names and addresses of people I wanted to come
to the wedding reception. A click on Note Cards and I could make
a list of places to visit on the honeymoon. And a click on
Inventory, and I could make a list of all the frivolous junk I've
collected since I graduated from college and now need to discard.

Fax Capability
My computer doesn't have a fax board, therefore I couldn't try
out the fax capability of WordPerfect Works. But if you have a
modem and a FaxBios compatible add-on board for your computer,
you can fax documents from the Print menu of LetterPerfect.
Instead of going to a printer, the document goes out over a
telephone line as if sent from a fax machine.

Modem Communications
With a modem and the Communications program, you can communicate
with electronic bulletin board services (I did), transfer files
over telephone lines, and communicate with other people through
on-line modem communication services. Communications supports
most popular modems and file transfer formats.

Try it Yourself
WordPerfect Works is a product that makes this business fun. I
love to write, I love to play with new software, and I loved
trying out this fun, yet serious product.

WordPerfect Works is dynamite in a small package. Whether you
are buying your first computer and need some powerful yet easy-
to-use applications, or are a more experienced user who makes all
or part of your living at a keyboard, this is worth a close look.

TESTING YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF WORDPERFECT'S E-MAIL PROGRAM
This is a test:

1. Did you know WordPerfect Corporation has an electronic mail
product?
                 YES___ NO___

2. Did you know this E-mail product lets you send messages from
your terminal to mini- and main-frames such as VMS, DG, AS/400,
or UNIX stations, or other PCs and Macs, or any combination of
the above around the world?
                 YES___ NO___

If you answered yes to both of these questions, give yourself 100
percent, and treat yourself to lunch. Most people are not aware
WordPerfect Corporation is actually into the third iteration of
an E-mail package that is so powerful and convenient that more
than 700,000 people are using it. So why have we kept it a
secret?

Well, we weren't trying to be secretive, we just didn't try hard
enough to let you know what we're doing in the electronic mail
industry. Our E-mail product was released four years ago, and
people recognize it as WordPerfect Office.

Instant Access
The word Office was meant to convey the feeling of instant access
to several inter-office capabilities from your keyboard (Office
also includes a calendar, scheduling, a calculator, and more).
But what we failed to really emphasize was the E-mail capability.

The tremendous strength in WordPerfect Office's E-mail is that it
communicates across more platforms and operating systems than a
lot of the most popular E-mail products now on the market--and
with more access now under development.

Our goal is to make E-mail available for every computer system
and platform that makes sense.

Why All the Excitement?
Perhaps you've read in the last few issues of the WordPerfect
Report occasional announcements about various gateways being
released, or WordPerfect Office being released on another
platform. For those of you who didn't appreciate what the
excitement was all about, look at what WordPerfect's E-mail lets
you do:

If WordPerfect Office is running on your computer, and any other
computer that we support (see chart, next page), you can send
files and mail messages back and forth without losing any
WordPerfect codes and specifications. WordPerfect Office does
this by creating a "bridge" between the systems that allows easy
mailing of files. The building depicted on the following page
illustrates just what you can do from your own computer when
sending messages to other people using WordPerfect Office.

However, what if you want to send a message to someone who does
not have WordPerfect Office, for example, someone halfway around
the world? WordPerfect's E-mail solves this problem with a
special program that automatically translates your message so it
can be read by the other computer's software. This translation
software is called a "gateway." WordPerfect Corporation has
developed more gateways than most people will ever need (see
chart), and we've got many more gateways under development.

E-mail Around the World
The chart on the following page shows the power and versatility
of WordPerfect Office's E-mail. From your own keyboard, you can
communicate across the hall, across platforms, and across the
world. Using bridges you don't lose any WordPerfect codes; using
gateways, you can communicate with non-WordPerfect E-mail
systems. It's that simple!

If you're in the market for an E-mail package, look to
WordPerfect Office and discover what E-mail is really all about.

WORDPERFECT FOR WINDOWS INTERIM RELEASE
An interim release of WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows is now in beta
testing (the final phase before we release it) and is scheduled
to ship this month. The interim release includes a few
enhancements and fixes problems reported by customers who called
into our Customer Support Department.

Enhancements in the upcoming interim release include:

Drag and Drop With the ability to "drag and drop" text, you
simply highlight the desired text, click anywhere in the
selection, and drag it to a new location. The text selection
moves with an insertion point so you can position it exactly
where you want. You can also use the Ctrl key to copy the
selection and then click to paste it elsewhere in your document.

Zoom Edit The Ruler will contain a zoom button so you can see
and edit your page in magnifications up to 400% (see figure
above). A Page Width option lets you see the entire width of the
page.

Macro Command Inserter The interim release will also include the
Macro Command Inserter Program, which is similar to the pop-up
menu in the WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS Macro Editor that lists all
the macro commands. This menu makes it easier to write macros.

Macro Dialogs The updated macro language in the interim release
makes it possible to add dialog boxes to your macros.

On-line Macro Help On-line help for macros will include
reference information about macro commands with explanations and
examples. Users familiar with macros will not need the
additional Macros Manual unless they want the tutorials.

Remappable Alphanumeric Keys You will be able to assign macros,
text, or other keys to the alphanumeric keys on your keyboard.

Improvements have also been made to the software to correct
problems with the handling of Windows metafiles and display using
high-resolution monitors.

When available, the interim release can be purchased by calling
Orders at (800) 321-4566. Users who encounter a problem fixed
with this interim release, and call Customer Support for help,
will receive the interim release free of charge.

HOTTEST SELLING, AWARD-WINNING SOFTWARE!
Since WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows released in November 1991, more
than 850,000 copies of the product have been sold! At this
year's Spring COMDEX, WordPerfect Corporation received the BYTE
Readers Choice Awards for both WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS and
WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows. These Readers Choice Awards are
very important because they represent a vote of approval by
people who actually use the product.

NEW MACROS WITH WORDPERFECT 5.1 DOS INTERIM RELEASE
An interim release of WordPerfect 5.1 DOS began shipping in
March. The disks are dated 3/9/92. The disks affected in this
interim are Program 1 & 2, Install/Learn/Utilities 1 & 2, and PTR
Program/Graphics 1 & 2.

In addition to fixing some problems, this interim release
includes the option to sort and display files in your directory
in the order they reside on the disk rather than alphabetically.
This decreases the amount of time required to display List Files
with very large directories.

Among the several macros included is a macro to help you search
for multiple spaces that need to be replaced with tabs.

The PLEADING.WPM macro is for litigation attorneys, or others
requiring legal-sized paper with numbered lines down the left
side. While the pleading style has always been included with
WordPerfect 5.1 DOS, the new macro makes changing margins, line
spacing, etc., much faster and easier to accommodate the ever-
changing style required by various counties, states, and
jurisdictions.

And the POSTNET.WPM macro will help you print Postal Bar codes on
envelopes.

The disk in this interim release may be used to update all
registered users of WordPerfect 5.1 within your office. This
means that the computers that already have a registered copy of
WordPerfect 5.1 with an earlier date can benefit from the same
set of disks.

INTERIM RELEASE OF WORDPERFECT FOR NEXT
The latest interim release of WordPerfect 1.0.1 for NeXT is dated
2/6/92 and lets you save documents in RTF file format (RTFD if
graphics are present).

This version also displays characters more accurately, and they
are made easier to locate and use in the Extended Characters
panel. The Speller has also been improved, especially when "skip
always" is used.

Versions of WordPerfect 1.0.1 for NeXT are now available in
French, German, and U.K. English and can be purchased from your
local dealer.

"TIPPING THE TABLES" IN OUR FAVOR. . .
We frequently receive calls and letters from many of you asking
how we use WordPerfect 5.1 to design and produce this newsletter.
Can you locate in this issue the places where we've used Tables?
There are several, actually.

Turn to the front cover and take a close look at the nameplate
(the block where it says "WordPerfect Report"). The nameplate is
actually a table with one row and two columns, providing us two
large cells in which we've added the name of the publication.
The date and volume numbers were typed in the same cells but
moved about with advance codes (SHFT-F8,4) and font codes (CTRL-
F8).

If you'll turn to the telephone page on the back, you'll see how
we did the same thing using a two-celled table. Notice how we
are able to change fonts and use column mode to list the
telephone numbers. And yet we are able to provide a line of text
at the top which runs across all three columns. The information
boxes at the end of most articles are also tables. The power of
Tables is an underrated feature of WordPerfect 5.1!

PLANPERFECT 5.1 INTERIM RELEASE
An interim release of PlanPerfect 5.1 is now shipping. The disks
are dated 2/1/92. Only the Program 1 and 2 disks are affected.
Several minor problems were corrected, including some printing
and memory handling problems.

THE WORD PROCESSOR OF CHOICE
Did you know that more people use WordPerfect on more operating
systems than any other word processor in the world? Our
commitment to supporting these 9 million-plus WordPerfect
customers includes supporting you in your choice of operating
systems.

Right now, there's a lot of pressure in the industry to choose
one operating system over another. Some vendors push Windows,
some OS/2, and others Macintosh. Some would even lead you to
believe that DOS has been abandoned. We believe that you should
be able to choose the operating system you want, or even a
combination of operating systems, and be able to share your files
between different computers with complete compatibility. This is
why we continue to develop WordPerfect for all these platforms:

  DOS
  Windows
  Macintosh
  OS/2
  UNIX
  VAX
  Data General
  System 370
  NeXT
  AS/400
  Poqet

We're also developing versions of WordPerfect for OS/2 version
2.0 and for PenPoint.

WORDPERFECT REPORT NOW AVAILABLE IN FRENCH
We are translating a condensed version of the WordPerfect Report
into French, and invite those whose native language is French,
and would prefer to receive a French version, to contact us.
This publication is written for French- Canadians only, and will
not be sent to addresses outside of North America.

WHAT DOES OS/2 2.0 MEAN FOR WP FOR OS/2 USERS?
With the next version of IBM's OS/2 (version 2.0) about to
release, many of our WordPerfect for OS/2 users are asking a
similar question: "What options do I have for using WordPerfect
for OS/2?"

You actually have three options:

1. Continue using WordPerfect 5.0 for OS/2, our character-based
word processor.

2. Trade up to WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows, our GUI-based word
processor, and run it under OS/2 2.0.

3. Trade up to WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS, and run it under OS/2
2.0.

If you want the 5.1 features right now, you should trade up to
WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS or Windows. The 5.1 features will be
included in the next release of WordPerfect for OS/2.

And don't forget our multiple license for Windows, DOS, and OS/2
(see page 17). If you bought WP5.0 for OS/2 after April 1, 1991,
you are licensed to run WP5.1 DOS and WP5.1 Win on the same
machine. You just need to purchase disks for $19.95.US/$24.CAN.

Manuals, workbooks, and templates are also available from WPCorp
or your local reseller.

If you bought WP5.0 for OS/2 before April 1, 1991, you may trade
up to a full package of WP5.1 DOS or WP5.1 Win for
$99.US/$120.CAN.

To order, please see page 19 for the listing of our Orders
telephone numbers, or call Information Services if you have
questions.

WPWIN TO INTEGRATE WITH TEAMLINKS
In April, we announced our plans to integrate WordPerfect for
Windows with Digital's TeamLinks environment. TeamLinks support
won't be ready for this upcoming interim release, but it will be
included in the next version of WPWin.

TeamLinks has an electronic mail service. Within WordPerfect,
users will be able to exchange messages and files with any users
linked via PATHWORKS and DECnet in Digital's X.400 mail system.

WPWin users will also be able to access TeamLink's distributed
file cabinets over PATHWORKS and DECnet. With CDA, Digital's
compound document architecture, a WPWin user will be able to
share revisable compound documents among different word
processors in a common format.

These capabilities will be included in the retail versions of
WPWin, and users will not need to purchase a separate package.

WORDPERFECT 5.1 IN TWO NEW LANGUAGES
On March 30, 1992, we began shipping WordPerfect 5.1 in Croatian.
The disks are dated 3/18/92. The following day, we shipped
WordPerfect 5.1 in Hungarian. The disks are dated 3/20/92.

WordPerfect Report Now Available on Bulletin Board
For those of you who have access to WordPerfect's Bulletin Board
(WP BBS), we are now distributing WordPerfect Report
electronically, as well as in printed form. If you find the
electronic version adequate, please write or call us and we'll
stop sending you a printed copy. This will help reduce our paper
consumption. We will soon post WordPerfect Report on CompuServe,
as well.

You may download WordPerfect Report in either ASCII text format
or WordPerfect format with all of the WordPerfect codes intact.
Graphics will not be included as they are now produced in a
separate file for color separation.

Basic Instructions
If you have a modem and are familiar with your communications
software, dial the appropriate BBS phone number (see below). If
this is your first time logging into the BBS, you'll be asked to
provide your name, address, and phone number. Simply follow the
prompts until you get to the "Main User Menu." On subsequent
logins to the BBS, you will be taken directly to the "Main User
Menu."

Next, press F for "File Listing." You will see a list of several
topics and products to choose from. Select number three,
"General Information and Help."

At the "General Information and Help" menu, select #51, "WPCorp
News and Services." A list of files you can download will be
displayed alphabetically. Included in the list will be the
latest issues of WordPerfect Report. We will use this format:

REMINDER: DOS, WINDOWS, OS/2 LICENSING
WPCorp's new licensing policy announced several months ago lets
you run WordPerfect for DOS, Windows, and OS/2 (when available)
on the same machine. This lets you switch between environments
easily and at a reasonable cost. If you purchased a full or
trade-up package of WordPerfect 5.1 for either DOS, Windows, or
OS/2 after April 1, 1991, you will be able to use any of these
three versions on the same machine. There will be no extra cost
for the license to use the other two versions on the same
machine, but there will be a charge for documentation and
diskettes.

DRAWPERFECT ADDITIONAL LICENSES

and 20-packs are discontinued. You may purchase DrawPerfect as:

  A single full package ($495.US/$595.CAN)

Additional License with documentation ($349.US/ $425.CAN)

tape which has been previously been available only to dealers.

tax, shipping, and handling. To order, please call Orders (see
page 19).

TITLE PAGE NOT REQUIRED FOR TRADE-UPS
If you are trading up to WordPerfect for Windows, you are not
required to turn in the title page to your WordPerfect for DOS
manual. You can trade up through your local reseller simply by
completing the form on the back of the trade-up package, which
certifies that you are a licensed owner of WordPerfect.

AT LAST--RECYCLED PAPER!
That's right, all 2 million copies of the WordPerfect Report are
now printed on recycled paper. We selected a type of paper which
exceeds the minimum EPA requirements to be considered "recycled"-
-that is, more than 50 percent of the paper is made from recycled
fiber, with at least 10 percent post consumer waste. The paper
we use is also recyclable. If you don't save your copy, please
participate in your local curbside or recycling program by
depositing this publication in a recycle bin.

WORDPERFECT MAIL BOX
World Record Typists Unite!
On page 9 in the Spring 1992 issue of WordPerfect Report, an
article on an invitational type-off appeared. Would you please
let me know how I might enter this competition? L.S.S.,
Enumclaw, WA

The individuals at Key Tronic Corporation who started this
competition, underwent some reorganization this year and have
opted to postpone the 1992 type-off. They indicated they'd
launch a 1993 type-off at a later date. We'll keep you posted.

Copyright Permission Granted
At the United States Air Force school of Intelligence Training,
we have over 400 people who use WordPerfect. We find WordPerfect
Report very informative and would like to copy and circulate it
throughout our organization. Could you provide us with a
copyright release? J.R.H., Goodfellow AFB, Texas

We encourage our readers to make whatever use they can of
WordPerfect Report. If you would like to make copies, all we ask
is that you give proper attribution--that is, include the name of
the publication, date of issue, and page number (example:
"WordPerfect Report, Spring 1992, pp. 8-11"). --Editor

Lay, Lie, Lye
Extremely interesting report on all the technical advances at
WordPerfect--but you spoil it all with such a blatant grammatical
boo-boo as highlighted above ["lay" instead of "lie"]. Please!
The verb form is LIE. M.S., Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Miller, my seventh-grade English teacher, scolded me on that
very word more times than I can remember. I deserve the knuckle-
rap. --Editor

Thanks for Saying It Like It Is
I enjoyed the subject article ("I tried WordPerfect for Windows,"
WordPerfect Report, Winter 1991). I was particularly impressed
by the frank evaluation of the new WPWin program. As a result, I
have bought the thing despite the fact I swore I would never use
Windows. I am a non-power user and anything that makes life
easier is a boon to me. J.B.D., St. Joseph, Michigan

We've received a lot of good comments about our review of WPWin.
We hope to do similar articles in the future (see the "WPWorks"
test drive article, this issue). The overall message that
Windows is not for everybody is what we had hoped to get across
with that review. I hope you get tremendous benefit from your
copy of WPWin. --Editor

Pudding Isn't the Proof?
I draw your attention to page three of WordPerfect Report, Fall
1991, in which you subhead a paragraph, "Proof Is In The
Pudding." My husband and I have chuckled for years over the
number of people who get this one wrong. The complete and
correct saying is "The proof of the pudding is in the eating."
Hence, your title should have been the "proof is in the eating."
You don't goof too often, and it's kind of fun to catch you in
one. Thanks for a great product. R.B., Orlando, Florida

I'd rather eat pudding but I guess I'll have to eat my words. --
Editor

Happy After All These Years...
Back when WordPerfect introduced its first program, you sent me a
copy for review. I was immediately struck by how far superior
your program was over such software as Displaywrite, Multimate,
Wordstar, and others. ...It's not too often that, without any
financial interest, we have the opportunity to be gratified by
another company's success. That you have maintained integrity
throughout each upgrade and support over the years is somewhat
unusual in a field so replete with "hype" and unrealized
expectations. I still use WordPerfect in my writing and thank
you each time I sit at the keyboard. D.J.M., Andes, New York

"Down With Jargon Words!"
Your Fall 1991 WordPerfect Report makes me feel a bit uneasy.
Evidently there are things I should know but don't about your
product, which if I did know would increase my satisfaction with
it by several orders of magnitude. I'd like that but I don't
understand your Report. I think my problem is that I speak only
English with a little Accounting....but I'll be darned if I can
understand your language. What is "Beta Testing"? What is a
"...user interface that works in a GUI environment"? What is a
"user interface"? M.D., Morro Bay, California

Okay, you got me. I do use a lot of unnecessary jargon. I hope
this particular edition of WordPerfect Report is an improvement.
