                           CHKDRV.COM
                          Version 1.0
                        By Mike Edgerton

CHKDRV.COM is a small utility that checks your A: or B: drive to
see if it's ready (Is the drive door closed, is ther a disk in the
drive, and is the disk formatted), and then sets the DOS Errorlevel
upon completion. It is meant to be used in a batch file. Included
in this ZIP file are three batch files to test the program. They
are Try_A.BAT, Try_B.BAT, and Try_C.BAT. To demonstrate how this
works, put a formatted disk in Drive A: and type Try_A <Enter>. The
BAT file will tell you Drive A: is Ready. Now take out the disk in
Drive A: (or open the drive door, or place an unformatted disk in
the drive), and you will get a message that says Drive A: is NOT
ready.

To get a listing of the ErrorLevels set by CHKDRV, you can type
CHKDRV <Enter> or CHKDRV /? <Enter>. The program sets the DOS
Errorlevels as follows:

If Errorlevel is 4 then Drive B: is Ready

If Errorlevel is 3 then Drive A: is Ready

If Errorlevel is 2 then Drive B: is NOT Ready

If Errorlevel is 1 then Drive A: is NOT Ready

If Errorlevel is 0 then you have specified an invalid drive

Please remember that when you use the DOS Errorlevel in a batch
file , that you list the Errorlevel from the highest to the lowest,
just as it is listed above.

This program is Freeware and may not be sold at any price. If you
like it, and use it, drop me a line on Compuserve.
