EXEC-BALL DRAFT RULES

The file DRAFTLST.TXT contains a list of 26 players (one from each
Major League team) for each of the following positions:

          Catcher             #1 Starting Pitcher
          1st Base            #2 Starting Pitcher
          2nd Base            #3 Starting Pitcher
          Shortstop           #4 Starting Pitcher
          3rd Base            #5 Starting Pitcher
          Left Field          #2 Relief Pitcher
          Center Field        #3 Relief Pitcher
          Right Field         #3 Relief Pitcher
          Designated Hitter (AL teams only, obviously)

These are the probable starters at each position for each Major
League team.  The list was compiled mostly from The Sporting News
Baseball Yearbook.  I made some adjustment based on trades,
injuries, etc. that have taken place since the printing of the
magazine.  Second and third relievers will be based mostly on most
games pitched last year.  This will be the list of players that
will be dispersed in the draft.  You will need to print this file.

There is a blank space in front of each name (___).  You must rank
every player at each position from 1 to 26 - with 1 being the
player at that position you want the most, and 26 being the player
at that position you want the least (i.e. rank the shortstops 1 to
26, rank the #1 starting pitchers 1 to 26, rank the #2 starting
pitchers 1 to 26, etc.).  You must rank all 26 players at each
position - no write-ins - just rank the players that are there.
I'll ask that everyone mail their rank ordered lists to me, and
that they be postmarked NO LATER THAN Tuesday, March 31.

After I receive everyone's list, I will conduct the draft (or
player disbursement).  I will randomize the list of teams in our
league and call this the "draft order".  The draft will be
conducted by field position in the following order:

           1.  #2 Starting Pitchers
           2.  2nd Baseman
           3.  #3 Relief Pitchers
           4.  Third Baseman
           5.  #1 Starting Pitchers
           6.  Center Fielders
           7.  #2 Relief Pitchers
           8.  Shortstops
           9.  Left Fielders
          10.  #1 Relief Pitchers
          11.  #4 Starting Pitchers
          12.  Catchers
          13.  1st Basemen
          14.  Right Fielders
          15.  #3 Starting Pitchers
          16.  #5 Starting Pitchers
          16.  Designated Hitters

Suppose, for sake of clarity, that there are 12 teams in our
league.  After shuffling them, I can call them Team 1, Team 2, etc.
based on their "draft order".  I will begin the draft by giving
Team 1 the top ranked player on his list of #2 Starting Pitchers.
Then Team 2 gets his top ranked #2 Starting pitcher from those not
already taken.  Then Team 3, and so on down to Team 12.  Then I
flip-flop the order, and Team 12 gets his top ranked #2 Starting
Pitcher from those not already taken, then Team 11, etc. until
every team has 2 players from the list of #2 Starting Pitchers. 
Then I move on to Second Basemen.  But before I dole them out, I
move the team selecting first from the previous position to the end
and move everyone up one.  So the order for dispersing Second
Basemen would be:  Team 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, 1,
12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.  #3 Relief Pitchers would then
be:  Team 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 2, 1, 12, 11, 10,
9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3.  I continue this confusion ad nauseam through
the list of 17 positions.  Each team will wind up with 2 players
from each of the 17 positions - except that you will only get 1 DH
for obvious reasons (alright, maybe not so obvious - there are only
14 of them to go around).  This will give each team a roster of 33
players.  From that list, you will have to cut players to get down
to the limit of 23.
