           Setting up WildNet for Planet Connect Systems

Existing Wildnet nodes need to start at the top. Systems new to
Wildnet, hit page down.

Existing Wildnet Nodes
======================
Systems that are currently in the WildNet Node Listings and
are running Planet Connect, can now get their mail off the
Planet Connect Satellite FTS style.

Let your current HUB know that you will no longer be polling
him/her for mail and than shut off all your conference's with
that hub. While doing this pickup any mail and deliver any replies
that you might have on your system. You MUST shut this connection
down BEFORE your first transfer. If you attempt to do an overlap
of mail the net may be filled with duplicate messages, earning
you the gratitude of all the sysops in Wildnet.

All Systems do:
==============

Create a new NDL file with the QWK ID for your hub as PCSAT.
As Wildnet is primarily a QWK network we ask for the QWK id
used by your system's mail door.

Next, in your tosser, set up the following AKA's:

63:32000/1 - mail packed for Plannet Connect
63:1/1          - local admin echo

 -------- DO NOT USE THESE AKA's IN YOUR MAILER -----------

1:280/319 will be the address to be used for your tosser as
your hub for Wildnet echos. ALL replies are to be returned to
1:280/319 ONLY, not to Planet Connect.

Setup a conference with the echo tag of LSD_NODES that I will
use as a local admin area which will be picked up when you
call in to drop off mail. This will not be sent out over PC
and will help us to identify any difficulties quickly.

Setup the PCNODE software, doc's included in the file. This
will make unsecuring the mail and moving it to your tosser's
inbound area simple and beats a batch file by a long shot.<g>

As you may have noticed already, all Wildnet mail that is on
the Planet Connect Satellite IS encrypted. Each night when
the mail is packed for Planet Connect a security file is
extracted from each Wildnet.Z?? and will be placed on hold
for your system when you call.

The use of security files is not an attempt to prevent access to
Wildnet, but to maintain a single entry point into the net as
sending replies back to the net using another source could create
difficulties.

To start receiving Wildnet off the Satellite you will first
need to contact Lee Fisher VOICE at (913)642-9244 and the hours
available are from 7:30AM - 8:30AM and 7:30PM - 9:30PM.  You
will be making this call to setup a Session level password
and get any final questions answered that you might have.

And from here, things continue as normal. Systems currently
in the Wildnet Nodelist will receive priority in establishing
a feed for the first 3 weeks, so that we can make the transition
as easy as possible. DO NOT go to Planet Connect for ANY mail
problems, contact Lee Fisher.

Mail Flow
=========

Currently, the mail is packed for PC at 1:00am CST and the SEC files
are generated and placed on hold for all systems. You will need to
poll me and send any mail back to the network some time after 1:15am.
This way you have the files needed to get the mail tossed when it drops.

I realize this is less than perfect as your replies will not make it
on PC that same night and we can work on this as time goes on. I just
want to get things rolling and then we can make any changes needed to
accomodate the mail flow. Replies that arrive by 5:00am will be sent
out to the Stars for distribution although with our current setup most
systems will not pickup mail until the following night.

This is something that will be discussed in LSD_NODES in the next couple
of weeks.

Cost Recovery Plan
==================

The way the cost recovery plan will work is that I will personally be
paying the cost of sending the mail to PC and each system who was using
PC as their source of mail would send a payment for the cost recovery
to me for offsetting the expense.

The CRP will start out as a fee of $2 per month, 3 months minimum and
a maximum of 6 months. The projected numbers are based on 20 systems
using PC and an average cost of $40 per month.

I will be tracking the cost extremely closely as the phone bills arrive
and will post the actual cost figures in this hubs local administrative
echo. As more systems start using PC the amount of mail will increase,
but the actual cost per node will more than likely drop.

Once we have had 3 months of operation with this plan the CRP will be
evaluated to see what the actual cost are compared to the payments and
if a surplus exist each system will be given additional time so that we
achieve a balanced budget.

Please send a check (no cash) to the following address for the cost
recovery program:

        Lee Fisher
        P.O. Box 12631
        Shawnee Mission, KS 66282-2631

Payment does not have to be sent prior to accessing the network, but I do
ask that I receive this within the first 30 days of your connect. This
will make sure that I have funds to cover the additional phone bill when
it arrives.

If we end up having a larger number of systems setting up than is needed
to cover the cost of the phone calls to PC during the first month the
cost recovery plan will be revised to compensate for this. One possible
option would be to add a dedicated phone line "IF" the number of systems
calling in creates a problem, but I feel that this is something that
should not occur any time soon as the average call takes about 1 minute.

System Problems with your Equipment
===================================

If for some reason you have a hardware failure with your dish you can
recover the mail packets that you would normally have received. Use List
or some other file viewing program and look at the *.SEC files. Each on
will contain the name of the Wildnet.Z?? file that it opens. Those files
will be available for File Request from 1:280/319.

Also if your *.SEC files get trashed for some reason, send me netmail
and tell me which Wildnet.Z?? files you need to open. As soon as I
read the message the files will be crashed out to you.

LSD Connection System Problems
==============================

Never say never.<grin> While I attempt to maintain an error free system
problems do occur, such as bad backup tapes. :( I am currently working
on a system to make a backup system available if for some reason I go
down and will not be able to return online by the following night's
mail. This has only occured a couple of times in the last 5 years and I
was able to return to mail processing in about 24 hours, we don't want
to press our luck and have everything die without a backup plan.
