HOW MUCH HARD DISK SPACE DO I NEED?
-----------------------------------

We're often asked how much disk space is required to run a BBS. The answer
depends entirely on your particular application.

A complete TBBS system could be installed on a high density floppy disk, so
your decision about hard disk space need to be made on the basis of what
things you'll be storing online.

Large file systems exist which use multiple gigabytes of hard disk space,
chaining numerous high capacity SCSI drives together, representing investments
of thousands of dollars. This represents one extreme.

Perfectly useful BBSs are still running on ancient 10 and 20 megabyte hard
disks, too.

The average, however, is currently somewhere around 300 to 600 megabytes.
This will accommodate an average system, with an average collection of
downloadable files. Of course, the more you store online, the more space
you'll need.

Analyze your needs carefully, and start with a hard disk that will keep you
going for awhile. Plan for the potential need for a capacity upgrade later
on.
