Letter From Phil
by Phil Becker

Can another month have passed already? They say time flies when you're having
fun, and I'm sure having fun watching eSoft grow and seeing my vision of easy
to use multiuser PC information management software come into being. And
starting this month I have more help getting the software written!

I am really happy to finally welcome Bob Hartman to the eSoft team. After two
years of trying to convince him to join forces with me in this adventure, Bob
has "taken the plunge" and moved his family from New Hampshire to Colorado and
joined eSoft.

Those of you who are familiar with the amateur FidoNet may know Bob through
his work with Vince Perriello and Alan Bryant on the BinkleyTerm mailer
program. This program has earned its authors well deserved respect in that
arena.

What you are probably not aware of is that in his "day job" Bob has written
portions of MS-DOS for AT&T, worked on the ATEX newspaper publishing system,
and implemented communications interfaces for the BIX information service.
These are but a few of Bob's outstanding credentials. While it is true that
he has a Masters degree in computer science, I have verified that he can still
design software anyway.

Bob's first involvement with eSoft was to head up the TIMS project. He did
this even before officially joining eSoft. Those who have seen tims in action
can verify that things worked out quite well indeed. During that project I
learned that he and I work well together (he doesn't mind that I'm the boss,
and he doesn't call my ideas odd -- he just convinces me that his way is
better in this ONE isolated case).

Bob's enthusiasm is infectious, and I find that I am even more excited about
the possibilites now than before. Something I never would have thought
possible! Welcome aboard Bob. I thought I would never convince you to join
up. I'm really glad you did.
