CONNECTING TBBS TO AN X.25 PACKET SWITCHED NETWORK
--------------------------------------------------

THIS DOCUMENT APPLIES ONLY TO TBBS VERSION 2.1

TBBS Version 2.1 supports only external PADs (Packet Assembler
Disassemblers). A PAD is required to connect TBBS to an X.25 network.

eSoft, Incorporated does not recommend any particular brand of PAD at
this time. As of this printing, we have not yet come in contact with a
PAD that could not be configured to work with TBBS, so the brand
selection decision should be based on other factors.

Depending on the situation, your X.25 network service provider may
furnish or lease you a PAD for your use. A copy of the information
contained herein should be given to your service provider so they may
properly configure your network connection.

When selecting or configuring a PAD, it must support and be set for the
following: Host Echo, 8-Bit Transparent Data, and Data Forwarding
Timeout of 250ms.

Further, the PAD needs to properly support the CD (carrier detect) and
DTR (data terminal ready) serial lines. CD must reflect the state of
the connection; high when a user is connected, low otherwise. When TBBS
lowers the DTR line for about five (5) seconds, the PAD should initiate
a disconnect.

Some PAD products reflect connect status with the DSR (data set ready)
line, and have CD forced high. If this is the case, a simple adaptor or
cable can be used to switch those serial lines.

To connect a line to the PAD, simply attach a DigiBoard DB-25 cable
directly to the PAD. To configure the line, in CEDIT PORT/MODEM
OPTIONS, use modem type E (for an auto-baud PAD) or use the appropriate
modem type (A thru D) for a fixed-speed PAD. Do not use an init string.
RTS/CTS should be set to YES; all other settings set to NO.
