USING THE USROBOTICS COURIER 2400E
----------------------------------

THIS INFORMATION APPLIES ONLY TO TBBS VERSION 2.1

The USRobotics Courier 2400e is an enhanced version of the Courier 2400, and
includes MNP error correction and data compression capabilities.

There are two approaches to using the 2400e, and the approach you use must be
determined in advance. NOTE: The approaches vary only in their handling of
MNP Class 5 data compression. Either approach still provides MNP Classes 1
thru 3 error correction, and Class 4 performance enhancement.

                             Switch Settings

The following DIP switch settings for the modem are applicable for
either configuration approach:

      SW1 - UP/OFF       SW2 - UP/OFF        SW3 - DOWN/ON
      SW4 - UP/OFF       SW5 - DOWN/ON       SW6 - UP/OFF
      SW7 - UP/OFF       SW8 - DOWN/ON       SW9 - DOWN/ON
     SW10 - UP/OFF

                    Approach 1 - MNP Class 5 Enabled

ADVANTAGES: Increased data throughput on MNP connections on some types of
data.

DISADVANTAGES: Throughput DECREASE on MNP connections when transferring data
already compressed (with ARC, PKZIP, etc.). Sluggish response to menu
commands (elasticity) for slow speed or non-MNP callers.

In CEDIT use the following settings:

MODEM:
     Type = 4
     INIT = ATE0Q0X1V0M0S0=1S2=255S7=20&B1

PORT:
     I/F = LOCK 9600
     RTS/CTS Flow Control = Y
     All other settings = N

Use the MODEMSET program to "pre-condition" the modem as follows:

     AT&F&A0&M4&H1&C1&D2&W

NOTE: THIS STEP IS ESSENTIAL! The modem WILL NOT operate properly with TBBS
if you do not pre-condition it exactly as indicated!

                    Approach 2 - MNP Class 5 Disabled

ADVANTAGES: No penalty for non-MNP callers (no elasticity, described
previously).

DISADVANTAGES: Not using full capabilities of modem.

In CEDIT use the following settings:

MODEM:
     Type = 2
     INIT = ATE0Q0X1V0M0 S0=1 S2=255 S7=20

PORT:
     I/F = Automatic
     All other settings = N

Use the MODEMSET program to "pre-condition" the modem as follows:

     AT&F&A0&M4&H1&C1&D2&K0&W

NOTE: THIS STEP IS ESSENTIAL! The modem WILL NOT operate properly with
TBBS if you do not pre-condition it exactly as indicated!

                                  Notes

1. Those who make any connections to, from, or within the United King-
     dom, should add &G2 to the MODEMSET strings above to add the UK
     Guard Tones.

2. Our testing indicates that these settings produce reliable opera-
     tion in all modes at all baud rates with TBBS 2.1S, 2.1M[16] or
     2.1M[32].

3. RACKMOUNT versions of this modem may require slightly different
     settings in order to work properly.
