ODD MODEM BEHAVIOR (ANSWERING, SPEAKER)
---------------------------------------

If you are experiencing odd modem behavior such as the following:

        - Modem still answers after taking TBBS offline

        - Speaker stays on when it's supposed to be off

        - The modem never answers the phone when it rings (even
though the AA light is turned on indicating the modem
          is in auto-answer mode)

It is possible that the modular line cord to the modem is inserted in the
wrong outlet.

Most modems have two modular outlets on their back panel. One is usually
labeled "LINE" or "TELCO," while the other is labeled "PHONE" or "SET." The
line running from the modem to your telephone jack should be plugged into the
outlet labeled "LINE" or "TELCO," otherwise you may experience the above
problems (in addition to others).

While on some modems these outlets or jacks are the same (they're connected
together), on many modems the function of the two outlets is indeed different
and each must be used as labeled on the modem's back panel.
