IRTS News for 12th June 1994

DALKEY ISLAND CONTEST GROUP
---------------------------
Conditions were excellent for the CW FD last weekend, and
a number of EI stations were QRV. EI5DI/P, operated by Paul
EI5DI and Paul EI2CA, with logistical support from Tony EI6EW,
were QRV from their usual site near Arklow. In the restricted
section they amassed a total of 960 QSOs in 24 hours. This
is no doubt an all time IRTS record.

With the inclusion of the 160m band this year, the night
shift became a lot more enjoyable, and allowed the operators
to push the QSO rate to an average of 40 per hour for the
24 hour period. Best DX was N. America on both 160m and 80m,
which for summer propagation was quite remarkable. The antenna
was a 264 ft. centre fed wire with open line 30 ft. above
the ground, and the rig was a Kenwood 830M.

The group are now preparing for the IOTA contest in July,
when they will operate from their place of birth, Dalkey Island!
They were second in the world in last year's event, and are
keen to do at least as well. They have offered to bring a
few young keen operators who want to learn the skills of
contesting. If you are interested, see last month's newsletter
and contact Tony EI6EW at QTHr.

FRC FOXHUNT
-----------
On 29th May, Fingal held a foxhunt in the N. Co. Dublin
area. 3 foxes were use for the event, Rod EI7DF, Eddie EI6GU
and Chris EI7AAB. It was a most enjoyable afternoon as the
participants hunted in ideal weather conditions. The prizes
were presented at Bellewstown, and were as follows:
   1st, Paul Kearney EI7GM
   2nd, Peter Clandillon EI7GV,
3rd, John and Paul Lyons c/o EI2CM, and
4th, the club station, operated by Mark Cusack.

Refreshments were supplied after the prizegiving.

The club thanks all who participated, and hopes to hold
another foxhunt in early autumn.

GREENLAND EXPEDITION
--------------------
During the summer and autumn Paddy Barry EI6GH and his
crew sailed their Galway hooker from Dublin to Greenland and
back to Dublin. The journey was subsequently the subject of
a feature programme on RTE. Sean Mullen, a member of the crew,
will relate, and illustrate with slides, his experiences on
the journey, to Wicklow Wireless Society on 15 June at their
meeting, which begins at 8.15 pm in Ravenswell Convent, Bray.
As this is one of the final meetings of WWS before the summer
break, the society looks forward to a large attendance for
this very interesting programme.

The radio news editor apologises for omitting this
announcement from last week's bulletin, due to its being
mislaid between fax machine and laboratory.

-------------
The next radio rally will be the R.A.I.B.C. 5th Belfast

R.A.I.B.C. equipment fund in Northern Ireland. Enquiries should
