COMPATIBILITY STATEMENT:
Apex Graphics Systems, Sketch Library v3.6 has been tested as compatible with
LANtastic version 5.0.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
The Sketch Library is a DOS based Graphical User Interface (GUI) designed for
real estate appraisers and tax assessors. Network versions allow multiple users
to edit, draw, print and save sketch files simultaneously. System requirements
are as follows:

     * IBM compatible PC, XT with 640KB RAM or better.
     * Graphics capable video monitor and controller (Herc,CGA,EGA,VGA).
     * 525KB free conventional RAM before loading program.
     * 2.5MB free hard disk space.
     * HPII compatible laser jet, - IBM, or EPSON compatible dot matrix
	printers.
     *  MS/PC-DOS 3.3 or higher.

APEX will detect and use EMS memory automatically if it is available. EMS memory
is NOT required for normal operation, however, it's availability will reduce
conventional RAM requirements.

INSTALLATION:
The system on which APEX will be installed must be configured as a LANtastic
server. Installation is accomplished from floppy disks. From the floppy prompt
type:

	INSTALL /N

After installation, manually set KERNEL.EXE to read only by typing while in the
installation directory (e.g. C:\APEX):

	ATTRIB +R KERNEL.EXE

CONFIGURATION:
For multi-user use, be sure to load the DOS SHARE program on the server before
starting the LANtastic network. Recommended SHARE parameters are:

	SHARE /F:4096 /L:200

The server may be either dedicated or function as a workstation. All
workstations are identified by a unique three (3) character alpha-numeric
variable set in the DOS environment table:

	SET APEX.USERID=____

This may be included in the workstation's AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

OPERATION:
Program operation begins by accessing the appropriate drive resource and
executing APEX.EXE from the command line:

	Net Login \\<Apex Server> <Username> <Password>
	Net Use <DOS drive letter>: \\<Apex Server>\C-DRIVE\APEX
	APEX

MULTI-USER ACCESS:
Network versions support multiple and simultaneous access, from any drive
resource. A sketch file, however, can be accessed by only one workstation at a
time. Other workstations are advised that the file is in use. Each workstation
can create a unique configuration file which specifies individual preferences
including printer type, video display, data file directory, printer port, etc.
Each workstation may also create 3 to 6 reference files in the resident
directory.

PRINTING:
Printer output may be sent to any physical or redirected port, LPT1 through
LPT3, or COM1 through COM4. Before starting APEX, issue a NET USE command
through the operating system to establish a printer connection:

	NET USE LPT1 \\<Printer Server>|@PRINTER

Printer ports and type are selected from the APEX "OPTIONS/PRINTER SETTINGS"
menu. If a sketch is printed over several pages, increase the LPT time-out
value:

	NET LPT TIMEOUT 30

SECURITY:
Sketch data files can be shared between users over the network. Use the standard
LANtastic ACL security features to control access to sketch data or program
files.

NETWORK DISCONNECTS:
If the network cable connection is broken for more than a few seconds, the
workstation may appear to lockup. If attempts to (R)etry are unsuccessful,
reboot the workstation. After restarting the computer and re-entering APEX,
the last sketch will reload automatically and work can continue normally.
