Compatibility Statement
Chronologic Corp.'s Instant Recall Office v2.0 (maintenance release O or
later) is compatible with LANtastic NOS v4.xx and v5.xx.

Product Overview
Instant Recall Office is a DOS-based Personal / Workgroup information
manager. Data objects in the system allow you to keep track of addresses and
phone numbers of people, take notes, schedule appointments, organize to-do
lists and do reports or searches on these items. Instant Recall Office on
the network supports group scheduling with open time search, electronic mail,
shared databases and password protection.

Product Installation Notes
The LANtastic network software must be running on the machine on which
Instant Recall Office will be installed. Redirect an available network drive
letter to point to the server on which Instant Recall is to be installed,
e.g. NET USE E: \\SERVER\C-DRIVE. Without this redirection, the Install
Recall Office installation procedure will not be able to find enough disk
space to install the program because it only looks at network'ed drives.
However, a server with files required to initialize or shutdown Windows
should not remap any of its local drives to network drives (a.k.a. loop-back
redirections), or else Windows will lock up on the logo screen during
initialization. Thus, it is recommended that on a server running Windows,
Instant Recall Office should be installed from another workstation, or the
loop-back redirection be removed after the installation is completed.
Then, follow the instructions in the Instant Recall Office manual for the
rest of the installation procedure. Choose 'NetBIOS' when asked about your
network type. After the installation is completed, you may log in as the
supervisor and create new system users to access the system. To add a system
user, choose the Preferences menu, then Network/Database, then System User
Setup.
Instant Recall Office maintenance release O and above should not require all
workstations to use the same drive letter. To use Instant Recall Office from
another workstation, log onto the server machine on which you have already
installed the program. Redirect an available drive letter to point to the
Instant Recall Office directory and invoke "IR2 <username>", where
"<username>" is a system user created by the supervisor.

Product Execution Notes
When running in the foreground, Instant Recall Office requires 512K of
memory. You can also run Instant Recall Office in memory resident mode,
which allows it to pop up over other software at the touch of a key and to
send you an alarm when you have an appointment or urgent message. The TSR
(IRLOAD) requires 25K of memory in the background and should be loaded after
all network drivers. You can load the TSR into upper memory by running the
IRLOADHI program with some memory managers such as QEMM and 386MAX. If you
are running DOS 5.0, you should just use the DOS loadhigh command (as in LH
IRLOAD) instead of IRLOADHI.
Starting LANtastic v5.0, a stricter constraint was placed on any TSR
co-existing with our SERVER.exe TSR. Direct manipulation of the interrupt
vector table is prohibited. If you are having difficulty running IRLOAD
with SERVER, a workaround (in the form of a patch SERVTSR.exe) is provided
and can be obtained from Artisoft's BBS.

Printing
If you get a message indicating the printer is not ready when you try to
print from Instant Recall Office, try ignoring the message and see if you can
finish the printing. Instant Recall Office uses a BIOS call to determine the
state of a printer, which is not supported by some BIOS chips. To disable
the false alarm, you can append the /NOCP command line option to IR2, IRLOAD
or IRLOADHI. However, you will not receive the proper warning when the
printer is indeed not ready, e.g. when it is out of paper.

Compatibility Notes
Instant Recall Office running on a LANtastic workstation needs access to its
data files on the server and constantly performs updates to the server in the
background. Therefore, it is recommended that the server machine should be
powered on before any workstations and be the last one powered off so that
the workstations and server can be in synch with each other.
To determine which maintenance release you are currently on, press F1 for
Help, then press F2 for Info - the letter at the end of the serial number
indicates the release level. We recommend running maintenance release O or
later with LANtastic.
