LANtastic Network Operating System Compatibility Testing Report

Product Reviewed: Tripp Lite LAN UPSes
Classification: UPS
Date: 4/15/93

Compatibility Statement:
The Tripp Lite BC/LAN and Omni/LAN UPS lines are compatible with
LANtastic NOS 4.xx and the LANtastic NOS 4.0 UPS monitoring utility
(UPS.EXE).

Product Overview:
Tripp Lite's LAN UPSes can be used in conjunction with LANtastic
NOS 4.0's UPS.EXE (UPS monitoring utility), to safely shut-down a
server during a power failure. Tripp Lite provides a serial
interface cable (part #73-665) that provides the hardware interface
to signal the UPS.EXE utility at the time of power loss, allowing
the server program to safely shut down before the UPS is depleted.
If utility power returns before the server shuts down, the UPS will
signal the server again and the impending shut down will be
canceled. See the LANtastic NOS 4.0 README.DOC file for a complete
description of the UPS.EXE utility.

Product Installation Notes:
The UPS.EXE utility is automatically copied to the server's hard
drive during the LANtastic installation procedure. Two basic steps
are required to enable UPS monitoring on the server: (1) Connect
the UPS to an available serial port on the server using the Tripp
Lite serial cable. (2) Modify the STARTNET.BAT (or other batch file
that brings up the NOS) to include the UPS utility. For example, a
batch file for a system using Artisoft's AE3 adapters would look
like this:

     aex
     ailanbio
     redir Host
     share
     server
     UPS

See the README.DOC file for information on customizing the UPS.EXE
utility.
