On the road to Leningrad (August 1941) - Company C of the 59th Armored Engineer
Battalion at the head of the first divisional column arrive in Volosovo.
Investigating machine gun fire from the northeast and a report from an ambushed
truck convoy, the company finds approximately 300 Russian soldiers emerging from
the east woods heading for the nearby ridge. Due to the importance of this road
to supply the advance on Leningrad, the company attacks. It consists of two
tank platoons, a platoon of halftracks armed with rockets, and an engineer
platoon on trucks. In reserve are the company headquarters units. In the
original action, the Russian forces are decimated. -- From "Small Unit Actions
