
IRTS RADIO NEWS BULLETIN

IRTS Committee Meeting

A very well attended IRTS Committee meeting took place at the 
Prince of Wales Hotel in Athlone on Saturday January 13th.

Nominations for the incoming committee were finalised and will be 
published in the next issue of the Newsletter.

Ongoing discussions with the Department of Communications are 
nearing completion and favourable outcomes are expected on all 
issues in the near future.

The provision of a global insurance policy to cover the Society 
and affiliated clubs and groups is being pursued. Any member who 
is in a position to help in this matter is asked to contact the 
Vice-President Ken EI4DW at QTHR.

The next committee meeting will be held at the Prince of Wales 
Hotel in Athlone on Saturday March the 9th at 1400.


The IRTS AGM  is being hosted this year by the Fingal Radio Club 
and will be held at Jurys Hotel in Ballsbridge on Sunday April 
28th at 1430. 

As usual, the annual dinner dance will be held on the Saturday 
night and very attractive rates have been negotiated for overnight 
accommodation.

The Fingal trade show will be held as usual on the Sunday.

National Packet Meeting

Declan EI6FR chaired his first national packet meeting, on January 
13th in the Prince of Wales Hotel in Athlone. This was one of the 
best attended packet meetings for quite a while and 
representatives were present from Cork, Galway, Limerick, Athlone, 
Waterford, Dundalk, Donegal and Tipperary. Also present were Hugh 
GI3TLT, chairman of the GI packet Working group and Pete GI1ONL 
who will act as liaison between the EI and GI packets groups.


The following are the members of the National Packet Working Group 
who will meet again in Athlone on Saturday March 9th ;-

EI2GT, EI2GX, EI2HH, EI2IE, EI3DIB, EI4DW, EI6HW, EI7DNB and 
EI7GM.

A survey has been issued by Declan and all packets users are asked 
to complete it as soon as possible. Copies may be had from any 
member of the working group or from their local packet group.

2 Metre Counties Contest

VHF enthusiasts are reminded that the 2 Metre Counties Contest 
will be held again this year as usual on Easter Monday, April 8th.

There are no rule changes and the rules as published in the 1994 
Members Handbook, page 15 apply.

We look forward to a fine day with lots of portable activity.

News as Gaeilge and News on CW

Listeners are reminded that amongst the many IRTS news broadcasts 
each week are the ones on CW and in the Irish language. 


Both are on 80 metres, with the CW bulletin being broadcast by Tom 
EI3HH in Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick on 3.630 MHz at 1030 and the 
Irish language bulletin is broadcast by Danny EI6GS from Dungloe,
Co. Donegal on 3.670 at 1130.

Please support both of these broadcasts.

Limerick Radio Club

Limerick Radio Club is this year celebrating its 50th birthday 
and a celebration lunch is being held in conjunction with the 
clubs Annual General Meeting at the Limerick Inn Hotel on Sunday 
March 24th. 


The IRTS Region 4 Annual General Meeting will also be held at the 
same venue after the LRC meeting.

Region 4 covers Limerick, Clare, Galway, Tipperary and Kerry and 
members, and in particular, club representatives are urged to 
attend.
                         
A Radio and Electronics Exhibition as also planned to coincide 
with the other events and all traders are invited to book a stand.
