Note:

1. When installing ANY new adapter with the Windows 95 operating system, you

will need to have access to the Windows 95 installation files.

2. Plug-and-Play may work properly only when you have a Plug-and-Play BIOS.

Without a PnP BIOS, even a PnP-aware operating system like Windows 95 may

not configure the adapter correctly or consistently.

PLUG-N-PLAY NodeRunner PRO SETUP

The NodeRunner Pro ships with Plug-and-Play enabled by default. If your

computer has PnP BIOS, then the following instruction will apply. These

instructions assume that you have a computer with Windows 95 installed and

operating, but networking has not been enabled.

1. Install the adapter in an ISA-compatible slot and connect the network cable

to the proper connector.

2. Reboot the machine.

3. The first time you start Windows 95 after installing the NodeRunner Pro

adapter, you will see a message informing you that Windows 95 has detected a

new hardware device called the Intel Ether/Express Pro/10 adapter. Windows

95 detects the adapter as this model because the adapter was co-developed

with Intel. The driver supplied by Windows 95 for this adapter will work

fine with the NodeRunner Pro.

The Windows Default Driver will be checked in the pop-up Window; SELECT OK.

4. Since no networking had previously been enabled on this computer, Windows

95 will prompt you for a computer name and workgroup name to identify this

computer.

Two Windows 95 pop-up messages will appear:

The first will ask you to provide a computer and workgroup name.

You must supply a computer name and a workgroup name.

         Select OK

The second will pop up a window with spaces for entering the Computer

Name, Workgroup Name and Computer description. Enter the requested

    information

Note: The computer name you enter will be used by all 32-bit networks. The

workgroup name is used only by the Microsoft Network, but you must enter

one. LANtastic for Windows 95 will not use this workgroup name in any way.

5. Windows 95 will now request files from its installation disks or CD-ROM.

You must have access to these files for the adapter to be installed

properly.

6. When Windows 95 is finished copying files, it will prompt you to restart

the machine.

    Select YES.

7. After the machine reboots, you will be prompted for a default username and

password for the Microsoft network. You must enter a username; password is

optional.

Select OK after entering the username.

8. You will then be prompted for a Windows password. This is optional. You

could just Select OK without entering any password.

When a new adapter is installed, Windows 95 will automatically install the

default Microsoft and Netware clients with their associated protocols.

Even though LANtastic for Windows 95 will work with these other networks

loaded, you should remove the Microsoft and Netware clients if you don't need

them. Having them loaded will use memory and create unnecessary overhead on

your computer.

To remove these Clients:

Select 'My Computer' then 'Control Panel' and then 'Network'.

Select each component that you don't need starting from the top

           Select REMOVE.

This will allow you to remove the Microsoft and Netware clients

first, then the IPX and NetBEUI protocols.

When you are finished, all that should be left in the list is the

adapter.

           Select OK at this point.

If you receive a message about your Network not being complete,

select YES.

When prompted to restart your computer, select YES.

NodeRunner Pro Installation is now complete.

NON PLUG-N-PLAY NodeRunner PRO SETUP

Note: When installing ANY new adapter with the Windows 95 operating system,

you will need to have access to the Windows 95 installation files.

The NodeRunner Pro ships with Plug-and-Play enabled by default. If your

computer does not have PnP BIOS, or you decide not to use PnP, then the

following instructions will apply. These instructions assume that you have a

machine with Windows 95 installed and operating, but networking has not been

enabled.

1. Install the adapter in an ISA-compatible slot and connect the network cable

    to the proper connector.

2. Reboot; when you see STARTING WINDOWS 95 on your screen, hit F8 and select

Command Prompt Only. This will boot the PC to a DOS prompt.

3. At the DOS prompt, enter NPROSET. You can run this from the floppy that

came with the NodeRunner PRO or from a directory on the hard drive, if you

have copied NPROSET.EXE to the hard drive.

  4. From the NPROSET Main Menu select Change Adapter Configuration and then

select Advanced Options:

          A. Select Concurrent Processing, hit enter, then select Disable and

hit enter again.

          B. Select PnP, hit enter, then select disable and hit enter again.

IMPORTANT: At this point you will be informed that you must cold boot your

                 computer after exiting NPROSET;

please be sure to do so.

  5. If the default settings of IRQ=5 & IOBASE=300 must be changed select

Change Configuration from the NPROSET main menu and select an IRQ and

IOBASE that will not conflict with other hardware already installed in the

  PC.

Note: If you do not know that the Default IRQ & IOBASE conflict with

other hardware in the PC, leave the adapter set at the default

       settings.

  6. Exit the NPROSET menu.

  7. Enter WIN at the DOS command prompt and the WIN95 Graphical Interface

will load.

  8. Double-click on My Computer Icon, then on the Control Panel Folder icon

and finally on the Add New Hardware icon.

  9. Click NEXT on the ADD NEW HARDWARE WIZARD screen.

10. Click NO, when asked "Do you want Windows to search for new hardware" and

then click NEXT.

11. Double-click on Network Adapters then click on Intel from the

Manufacturers List AND Intel Ether Express PRO/10 from the Models list.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT select Intel Ether Express PRO/10 PnP Enabled.

12. Click OK and Finish when prompted.

13. Click START then SHUTDOWN; when WIN95 displays the message it is OK to

power off your computer, please do so.

14. The first time you start Windows 95 after installing the NodeRunner Pro

adapter, you will need to double-click My Computer icon, the Control Panel

Folder, the System icon, the Device Manager Tab and then Network Adapters.

15. You should now see Intel Ether Express PRO/10 below the Network Adapters

icon. Double-click Intel Ether Express PRO/10 and then the Resources Tab.

If the Conflicting Devices list shows NO CONFLICTS, click cancel twice

and you will be returned to the Control Panel. You can now click Close on

the Control Panel. The NodeRunner PRO is installed and WIN95 reports no

  conflicts.

If the Conflicting Device List does show any IRQ or IOBASE conflict,

click Interrupt Request or Input/Output Range and select a value that

reports No Conflicts. Make a note of any changes you make to Interrupt

Request or Input/Output Range. Now click Cancel and you will be returned to

the Control Panel. You can now click Close on the Control Panel.

Note: DO NOT reboot the PC at this time.

Click Start, then Programs and then the MS-DOS Prompt to open a DOS

Window. Run NPROSET and select Change Configuration from the main menu.

Change the I/O address and/or Interrupt to match the settings you selected

  in Device Manager. Exit NPROSET.

Close the DOS Window, then shut down and restart WIN95.

         Select OK

The second will pop-up a window with spaces for entering the Computer Name,

Workgroup Name and Computer description. Enter the requested information.

Note: The computer name you enter will be used by all 32-bit networks. The

workgroup name is used only by the Microsoft Network but you must enter

one. LANtastic for Windows 95 will not use this workgroup name in any way.

17. Windows 95 will now request files from its installation disks or CD-ROM.

You must have access to these files for the adapter to be installed

  properly.

18. When Windows 95 is finished copying files, it will prompt you to restart

the machine.

      Select YES.

19. After the machine reboots, you will be prompted for a default username and

password for the Microsoft network. You must enter a username, password is

  optional.

Select OK after entering the username.

Select each component that you don't need, starting from the top.

           Select REMOVE.

This will allow you to remove the Microsoft and Netware clients

first, then the IPX and NetBEUI protocols.

When you are finished, all that should be left in the list is the

adapter.

           Select OK at this point.

If you receive a message about your Network not being complete

select YES.

When prompted to restart your computer select YES.

NodeRunner Pro Installation, in NON Plug-n-Play Mode, is now complete.
