5. Upgrading your version 2.1 records
======================================

 - Run the UPGRADE.EXE file.

 - Click the UPGRADE button.

 - Using the UPGRADE Browser, locate
the PHONEBAS.DAT file in your old
Phone Base 2.1 directory and select
   it.
(if the file is present in the
   same directory as the UPGRADE.EXE
file, the UPGRADE program will find
   it there.)

 - Click the 'OK' button and your old
records will be upgraded and moved
into Book1 of Phone Base 3.0

 - Note:

      Upon completion of the upgrade,
   the program renames your PHONEBAS.DAT
   file to (PHONEBAS.OLD). You should
keep this file for backup. Then if
you ever need to, you can rename this
file back to (PHONEBAS.DAT), and run
   the UPGRADE program again.

6. Advanced
============

If you are familiar with modem commands, you
can override the program's internal commands
with your own. (Some of you may NEED to do
this to get your modem to dial.) To do this,
go to the 'Configure' menu and click once on
the telephone icon. The 'Advanced' window
will appear, and you will be allowed to type
in your own command strings.
Your command strings are automatically saved
as soon as you exit the 'Advanced' window.
Anything you enter here will be used by the
program, even if an entry is invalid.
Therefore, caution is highly advised...
An invalid command string will not cause any
damage to your modem or to the program, but
you may get program errors.
Most likely, your modem will simply ignore
the command and just sit there silently.
If your modem came with a booklet or manual,
you should be able to look up the recommended
command strings. If you use your own command
strings, it will also be necessary to include
in the 'INIT' string, your own MODEM VOLUME
and DIAL SPEED settings. When your own
commands are used, these settings on the
'Configure' menu will be ignored. Using your
own DIAL STRING will cause the 'Line Type'
setting to be ignored also... If you need
help, please E-mail me.
