            Washington, D. C. is the capital and ninth  largest 
            city  of  the United States.  It is one of the most 
            beautiful and impressive of the world's centers. Of 
            every 100 people who work in Washington, approx. 53 
            work in federal and local governments, 12 in whole- 
            sale and retail trade, 20 in professional services, 
            and 3 in manufacturing.  The main business  besides 
            government  is the printing and publishing business.
            It is the largest single source of  industrial  in- 
            come,  employing  4  out of every 100 persons.  The 
            second  largest  source  of  income  is  the  food- 
            processing industry.  Leading food-processing prod- 
            ucts include  dairy  and  meat  products  and  soft
