           STARFIND 4.12 PROGRAM DOCUMENTATION
By: Fred R. Vobbe Great Northern Broadcast Company

This program will calculate the location of a domestic
satellite and provide the location of the satellite for the dish
system. STARFIND will allow you to input the latitude and
longitude information then print it to the screen, or print it to
a printer.

All screens have been written to allow you to use the PRINT
SCREEN function of your computer, [PRT SC]. This way you can
make a quick printing of just a small piece of information. You
can also print a chart of the data.

When you input information to calculate the locations, the
program will ask for several items. The first piece of
information the program will ask for is the Name or Call Letters
of the satellite station. You would enter a call sign such as
"WLL-545" or "Lima Communications Downlink". Next it will ask
for a location, such as "Lima, Ohio". The inputs are designed
to not be Case Sensitive, so you may enter a name as "John's
Downlink" ,or "JOHN'S DOWNLINK".

Next you then are required to enter the location of the site
where the satellite dish is located in Latitude and Longitude.
These figures are in degrees, minutes, and seconds. They
correspond to geographic locations which can be found on
topographical maps, or from your local county survey office. To
test this program, here are some values of several sites to use
as a test.

Location Latitude Longitude

Andover, Maine 44 - 38 - 32 70 - 41 - 08
Marathon Keys, Florida 24 - 41 - 58 81 - 05 - 16
Lima, Ohio 40 - 44 - 54 84 - 07 - 55
Ames, California 37 - 25 - 21 122 - 03 - 38
Barking Sands, Hawaii 22 - 01 - 47 159 - 47 - 07

The program will then ask you if the information you entered
is correct. If it is not, press the "N" key and you can re-enter
your data. If it is correct, press "Y" and you will then be
prompted if you want the results displayed to the printer or to
the screen. The "Y" reply will then run the printer with the
information, while a "N" reply will feed one page at a time to
the computers screen.

Another feature is a pop-up screen on information on the
satellites. This will tell you the frequencies of the uplink and
the downlink. (see notes at end of text).
This program is free of charge to all users. I do encourage
you to File Request, (FREQ), a new copy of the program from us
from time to time since satellites are repositioned, and
transponder information may change. I will announce any
revisions and changes in the FidoNet Echos pertaining to this
sort of service.

File requests from 1:234/16 should be made between 4:00AM and
6:00AM Eastern Local Time, 7 dayes a week. Please note the
version number at the top of the program, and the Version & Date
on the last information page.

You will always want the latest version. If you have any
questions, please contact me via Netmail or by mail.

           ** Special Notices, Changes, & Comments **

2-DEC-90 * GE has filed for three new satellites, C1, C3, and C4.
The F.C.C. has received the applications, however no official
data has been issued. Version 4.10 reflects that change.

4-DEC-90 * Effective 1-JAN-90, NBC will launch NBC News Channel
on SBS-3, Transponder 8. Version 4.11 reflects that change.

1-JUN-91 * Sometime in the middle of the month, GE C1 will be
repositioned from 139 degrees to 137 degrees. GE C5 will take
over the position of C1 at 139 degrees. All programming will be
transitioned from C1 to C5 by 30-JUN-91. Version 4.11 reflects
that change.

28-JUN-91 * Between June 21st, and June 28, 1991, Galaxy I will
move from its present position of 134 degrees to 133 degrees.
Version 4.12 reflects the change in that position.

                       ** Authors Notes **

In the next edition of STARFIND, I will be adding transponder
data, as well as a table of most common programming. This is the
result of the comments sent to me by users of this program. Yes,
I do listen to those that use this program.

If you have an idea, or suggestion, which would enhance the
use of STARFIND, please drop me a letter or a card, or send a
message to me c/o The Black Hole BBS, (419) 228-7236, Fidonet
1:234/16.
