Winvelope Version 3.21

Important:

Winvelope requires the Microsoft VBRUN100.DLL runtime file, which
is not included with "Online Service" versions in order to reduce
download time. If you do not have this file, it can be found on
most Online Services such as Compuserve, Genie, etc., as well as
most public BBS's. The file usually is listed as VBRUN.ZIP. If
you have difficulty in locating this file, contact the author.

INTRODUCTION

Winvelope is a utility program that simplifies the printing of
envelopes from the Windows operating environment. Winvelope
accomplishes this task in just a few quick keystrokes and adds a
host of convenient features in the process. Now instead of
having to re-type the address, the user can copy it from a
Windows document via the Clipboard and paste it directly to an
envelope.

Winvelope can be loaded and minimized to an icon when starting
Windows so that it is always just a "mouse click" away. A handy
address book for Windows Cardfile is also included for storing
and retrieving frequently used addresses.

Features:

*	Capture an address from any Windows document and copy it
	to an envelope for printing.

* Automatically prints in landscape orientation for those
	printers that require it.

*	Store and retrieve frequently used addresses for printing
from an address book setup for Windows Cardfile.

*	Manually input an address at print time.

*	Optionally print envelopes with primary or alternate
	return address.

*	Choice of printing to any envelope size.

*	Adjustable print positions.

*	Support for Windows installed printer fonts and
	attributes.

System Requirements:

Winvelope requires the following minimum hardware/software
configuration:

*	Computer with a 286 or greater CPU.

*	Windows 3.0 software installed in either "standard" or
	"386" mode.

*	Windows CARDFILE.EXE installed in the Windows
	subdirectory.

*	Printer supported by Windows and capable of feeding
	envelopes.

Installation:

1.	Create a subdirectory on your harddisk and copy the files
from the Winvelope diskette to the new directory.

	C>md \Winvelop

	C>cd \Winvelop

	C> copy A:*.*

One of the files on the Winvelope diskette is named
VBRUN100.DLL. This is the Microsoft runtime file for
Visual Basic applications. VBRUN100.DLL must be located
in the DOS search path. This can be done by adding the
WINVELOP directory to the path statement of your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file or a better solution is to copy this
file to your Windows directory, which is already included
in the path statement. We suggest the latter option in
order to minimize the size of your path statement and more
importantly, with VBRUN100.DLL located in the Windows
directory, your system will be setup for other Windows
applications that may require this file in the future.

2.	Install Winvelope in Windows Program Manager or
substitute using the following command line:

	[d:][path] WNVEL32E.EXE

where [d:][path] is the drive and path containing the
	Winvelope files.

3.	You may want to load Winvelope as an icon when you start
Windows so that it is always available. To do this,
modify the "load=" statement in the [Windows] section of
the WIN.INI file to include WNVEL32E.EXE.

	[Windows]
	load=[d:][path]WNVEL32E.EXE

Refer to your Windows Manual for more detailed information
	on this procedure.

CONFIGURING WINVELOPE WITH SETUP

Default Printer Orientation Setting:

Prior to trying to print from Winvelope, activate the SETUP
pull-down menu and select PRINTING DEFAULTS. From this screen,
select whether your printer prints envelopes in the portrait or
landscape orientation. After this selection is made and saved,
Winvelope will automatically print the envelope in the correct
orientation without having to access Printer Setup. If
landscape orientation is chosen, Winvelope will return the
printer to portrait mode after the envelope is printed.

Default Paper Bin Selection:

This option, also found in the PRINTING DEFAULTS setup routine,
is primarily for laser printers. This setting will control
which paper source will be accessed when the print job is sent
to the printer. This setting is particularly important to
Hewlett Packard IIP, IIIP, and other similar type laser printers
which will not feed an envelope from the manual feed tray when
the lower paper cassette is installed without a direct call from
the software. Owners of these printers will want to select

BIN 0 (UPPER TRAY), or BIN 2 (MANUAL FEED), if the lower paper
cassette is installed. This will allow you to have the lower
cassette as the primary paper source and Winvelope will print
the envelope from the upper tray.

Owners of other types of laser printers may use this setting to
choose whether or not a manual feed prompt is desired when
Winvelope prints an envelope. This may be desirable if the
printer is located a distance from the user or if the printer is
being shared and there is potential for someone else's printjob
ending up on your envelope! A little trial and error may be
necessary here to get the desired effect, as a particular BIN
number may produce different effects on different brands and
models of printers.

The following chart shows the paper bin number assignments for
some popular laser printers:

PRINTER MODEL	Bin 0 Bin 1 Bin 2 Bin 3

HP Laserjet II	UpperTray	ManualFeed	Envelope	N/A
HP Laserjet IID	UpperTray	LowerTray	ManualFeed	Envelope
HP Ljet IIIP	UpperTray	LowerTray	ManualFeed	Envelope
Epson EPL6000	UpperTray	LowerTray	ManualFeed	N/A
Oki Laserline6	UpperTray	ManualFeed	N/A N/A

If after installing Winvelope you find the envelope won't feed
or the address prints on a page from the wrong paper source, try
different BIN settings until the desired effect is obtained.

Return Address Printing:

A return address can be printed if desired. To store the
default primary and alternate return addresses, activate the
SETUP pull-down menu and select RETURN ADDRESS. Enter both
return addresses in the spaces provided and SAVE. You may set
this feature to default either on or off by making the
corresponding selection in the PRINTING DEFAULTS selection of
the SETUP menu. Of course, either option may be chosen at print
time by use of the NO RETURN, PRIMARY RETURN, or ALTERNATE
RETURN option buttons.

Converting to all Caps

The Postal Service now recommends using all capital letters when
addressing mail. Winvelope allows you to convert any address to
all caps by making the selection in the PRINTING DEFAULTS menu.
If you change this setting after you have PASTED the address
and/or activated the return address option, you will have to
CLEAR and re-PASTE the address and turn the return address
option off and back on to see the results.

OPERATION

Selection of Envelope Size:

Winvelope 3.2 provides the options of using Business #10 (4" x
9-1/2"), Executive #9 (3-3/4" x 8-3/4"), Personal #6 (3-1/2" x
6-1/2"), Shipping (6-1/2" x 9-1/2"), or Custom (user defined)
size envelopes. This selection is made from the drop-down
listbox located at the bottom left corner of the screen envelope
graphic. The currently selected envelope size will always
display at this location.

Setting Print Margins:

Winvelope has a very flexible adjustment for address print
positions. Adjustment down to a tenth of an inch can be made to
the top and left print margins for both the return and addressee
positions. These adjustments are made by accessing the ADJUST
PRINT POSITION selection located at the bottom of the SETUP
pull-down menu. If adjustment is necessary, it may be easier to
print to an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper first and then measure
approximately how far margins need to be adjusted to hit the
envelope. Margins are measured from the extent of the printer's
print range rather than from the edge of the envelope.

Addressing the Envelope:

With Winvelope, there are three methods for addressing an
envelope:

1.	Capture an address from your Windows document by copying
it to the Windows Clipboard. Activate Winvelope and use
the PASTE button to paste the address on the envelope.

2.	From Winvelope, activate the ADDRESS BOOK button which
will launch Windows Cardfile and the file ADBOOK.CRD.
You may store and retrieve frequently used addresses here
as a permanent address book. Copy a selected address to
the Clipboard and PASTE as in method 1. Refer to the
Windows manual for more information on the use of Cardfile.

3.	From Winvelope, type an address directly onto the
	envelope address box.

Font Selection:

Printer fonts installed in Windows are available for selection
when printing envelopes. Individual selections can be made for
both the return address and addressee text by using the
corresponding Font/Attribute Setup Toolboxes located above the
envelope screen graphic. When you use the 'EXIT' button to
leave Winvelope, the currently selected envelope size, fonts,
and font sizes are stored as defaults for the next session.
Using the Windows Control Box WILL NOT save your font selections.

Font Attributes:

Bold and/or Italic type and font sizes for the return address
and addressee text may be selected from the Font & Attribute
Toolboxes.

Printing the Envelope:

The "PRINT" button prints the envelope via the Windows printer
driver similar to any other Windows application. If your
printer prints envelopes in the landscape orientation, the
printer will be changed to this orientation automatically prior
to printing and then changed back to portrait orientation when
finished.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Problem: Winvelope won't print in landscape mode.

Possible Solutions:	Make sure landscape is selected in
			Printing Defaults under Winvelope Setup.

You may have a printer and/or printer
driver that does not support this feature.
The current variety of Canon and Publisher's
Powerpak drivers are know not to support
Auto-landscape. If you have one of these,
you may order a version of Winvelope that
has a convenient Printer Setup button that
will allow you to switch to landscape and/or
change paper trays manually. Ask for the
'B' version when ordering. The 'B' version
is available only by ordering directly from
the author and not from any other
			distribution source.

Problem: Winvelope doesn't remember font selection
			from session to session.

Solution: In V3.21, the Winvelope 'Exit' button stores
the selected fonts in the FONT.INI file for
retrieving the next time Winvelope is run. If
you are using Windows Control Box to exit
Winvelope or letting Windows close Winvelope
when you quit Windows, your font selection will
not be saved. All versions of Winvelope above
3.21 will save all font and attribute settings
as they are made for each specific envelope size.

Problem: Winvelope gives error message and won't load.

Solution: Make sure the WV.INI and FONT.INI files are
present in the Winvelope subdirectory. Also make
sure that there are no .INI files from older
versions of Winvelope in your Windows or other
directories in the DOS search path.
