Sm(a)rtcopy v2.4
****************

1. What?
........

This program will copy a file from your hard disk to your disk drive,
IN THE CASE THAT THE FILE SIZE IS BIGGER THAN THE SIZE AVAILABLE IN YOUR
DISK DRIVE. It does not have to be a file on hard disk, it can also be a
file on CD-ROM for instance and the mentioned disk drive can also be
something else than the usual 1.44 disk drive; for instance a 1.22 drive or
even a ZIP-drive will work.
Once copied it is possible to restore the disk(ette)s to another computer!!
Right! YOU CAN FINALLY COPY BIG FILES VIA ORDINARY DISKETTES

2. How?
.......

With the same program (smrtcopy.exe) on 2 PCs.

A) CUT
On PC 1 you choose option 1: CUT.
Then you mention the name of the file and the drive letter. The program
will then determine the minimum number of disks needed and copy the file
to that disks. On every disk there will be made one file with a special
header that will be recognized in next step B).

B) PASTE
On PC 2 you choose option 2: PASTE.
You start with inserting the first disk, then the second one and so on.
After the last disk is inserted, the process will stop automatically
and your file will be put completely on PC 2!

I HEAR SOMEBODY SAY: I JUST KEEP ON USING MY BACKUP AND RESTORE TOOLS!
WELL THEN, TAKE A LOOK AT THE ADVANTAGES BELOW!!

3. Advantages?
..............

* It will normally work under every DOS and WINDOWS-version!
If you try to use your own backup and restore tools, to backup a file
in WIN95 for instance and restore it on a DOS 5.0 PC, well then you
will have most probably compatibility problems! The DOS restore tool will not
recognize the backup file or the WIN95 restore tool will not be able to
run under DOS5.0.
* Very small program, can easily be added to your boot or systemdiskette.
In case of unbootable windows caused by a virus for instance, this program
can be a relief because you will be able to safeguard for instance the big
WAV-file you made yesterday.
* You can run it from disk drive; it is loaded into memory and stays there
until you choose to exit.
* You do not need to buy or connect a special drive as a ZIP-drive.
* All files will be copied, even compressed files. You did try to make a file
smaller for instance, to get below the 1.44 limit but it only compressed
from 5 to 2.5mb. This program wil easily copy the file of 2.5mb to two
diskettes!!
* Partially filled disk(ette)s can be used too; you do not have to mention a
(free) size. It will not overwrite without asking.
* All 26 drive letters are supported.

4. Disadvantages?
.................

* The UNREGISTERED version has a file size LIMITATION of 3 MB, but
I think this is very generous of me and for the rest it works like the
registered version. It has no time limitation.
* The REGISTERED version costs 150BEF (this is for Belgium, look further
for other countries), but if you think about the time and money you can
save with this tool, I am sure this will not be a problem.
* It does not work with long filenames. Just limit the length to
8 characters by renaming or use the DOS equivalents.

5. Notes
........

* If you want to interrupt the copying (cutting) or pasting process for
some reason, then use respectively CTRL+BREAK or ESC.
* The maximum number of disks for one file is 99.

6. Register?
............

If you want to copy files, no matter what the size is then you have to
register. Of course, I can not forbid people to use the limited version
of Smartcopy, without registering. Providing the shareware concept some
support however is a good thing...
Registering means even also some support from my part by mail.
Unbelievable if you look at the price below.
Once registered, you get by E-mail your personal unlimited 'smrtcopy.exe'.

6.1 Belgium:
------------
If you live in Belgium, then be lucky, because you just have to transfer
150 BEF on postcheque account: 000-1712341-97
There is no need to mention other data of me but do not forget to mention
"Smartcopy" and your E-mail address!
You can also use regular post by sending over the cash. Address: see below.
Term of delivery: normally 1 week, except during summer time because then
it is possible I am somewhere else than behind my PC for a week or two. So
about 3 weeks will be the maximum term.

6.2 Outside Belgium:
--------------------
5 EURO, 5 US dollar, 10 Australian dollar, 10 Canadian dollar or
700 Japanese yen.
For European people that do not pay in EURO, I accept also following
prices: 30 FF, 10 Ned gulden, 10 DM or 3 British pound.
Since I can not be sure about transfer costs it is probably the
best you just send over the cash by regular post TO...
PB 4
B-8480 Ichtegem 1
Belgium

ATTENTION:
ON the letter: do not write anything above "PB 4" and do not forget the
"1" next to "Ichtegem"!
IN the letter: do not forget to mention "Smartcopy" and your E-mail.
ALSO: you can try transfering from outside Belgium to above account,
but pay attention to transfering costs; I do not accept that the net price
is below the mentioned ones (150BEF, 5 EURO,...)! If below the price,
the program will most probably not be sent.

Term of delivery: this depends of course on the distance between our
countries. However, once arrived in Belgium, the same rule as for Belgian
customers: 1 week normally, and max. 3 weeks.

6.3 Urgent?
-----------
If you want to be really sure about the term of delivery, then just
mail me (one can not take everything into account, one can be sick for
instance).
Remark that in the future it will normally be possible to use VISA.

7. Questions?
.............

Website: http://users.skynet.be/bs247739/smrtcopy.htm
E-mail: bs247739@skynet.be
(or in case of troubles with above E-mail, use: a_proxima@yahoo.com)

And if you do not have an E-mail: Go on the internet, somewhere, somehow.
There are a lot of cybercafes and libraries where you can do that and
visit http://www.yahoo.com. There you can ask for your own and free E-mail
address.

8. Last words
.............

Let us say I can guarantee this way of working, up to September, the 30d, 1999.
If you read this on a later date, then check above website, look for a
later version of this on the internet or mail me. But normally this service
will be available later on to.

I shall add, as everyone does, that I am not responsible for any harm caused
by this program on a direct or indirect manner.
The program however has been tested a lot and never caused any harm.

Just try out the unregistered version and decide; the use as safety tool only
is worth registering!

Thanks for trying this program!
