Dear Customer,

I have spent twenty years keeping BAD records for my racing pigeons. Sure,
I've tried the forms from the loft record book, tried using the samples found
in the "Racing Pigeon Bulletin", and even designed my own records. When it
came time to use this carefully recorded information I was overwhelmed.
Write new pedigrees, post a bird's wins to it's parents' and grandparents'
pedigrees, and don't forget to update the records on the pedigrees of the
bird's brothers and sisters. I never got it all straight or all done. How
much of a good breeder's success is due to a good memory or due to good
records. I find I have neither.

Ped is the pedigree program. The main bird input screen is designed to
capture bird and pedigree information on a single screen. The program
includes the best features I've found in the professional, expensive packages,
like field helps, field validations, and pull down menus to assist data entry.

This program took hundreds of hours to write and test. You should find it
fast, dependable, and easy to use. You can copy this program for your own
use or distribute it to others but; if you continue to use it standard
shareware terms apply. When you copy the program include a copy of this
readme.txt file. In addition if you like and continue to use this program
send $20.00 for its use. When you send the $20.00 enclose the name you will
to appear on the pedigrees in place of my name; I will then provide you the
numeric code which will allow you to change the name to the name of your
choice. With the check and name please enclose your mailing address and
optionally your phone number or e-mail address so I can return this code to
you.

This software is provided AS IS without warranty of any kind, either

This is a DOS mode program. It has been tested and works well in a full
screen Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 environment. You will find the programs,
a empty database, and documentation files. Install them into a directory
named ped on your -C- drive [ C:\PED ]. Windows 95 shortcuts are provided
which you can include in start/programs menu or include on your desktop.
If you are using windows 3.1 you will need to create your own program group
and program tasks to run the programs.

Use your word processing program to print the programs manual [ped_man.txt].
The documentation needs to print at 17cpi or 132 characters accrost. The
process I use for printing the documentation with word is
        1. Create a new document
        2. Set the page headings, margins, and footer to 0. Use the
fix option to get the closest allowable settings to 0.
        3. Set the font to Courer 17cpi or line printer.
        4. Inport the file into the document.
        5. If the font is still not correct then select all using the
edit menu. Now change the font to Courer 17cpi or best
            approximation.
        6. Print the documentation.
