                            What is L-nix?
                           ͼ

L-nix is an interactive tutorial program which runs under DOS and
MS Windows. It contains the following learning modules:

	A) Introduction to UNIX
	B) Your First UNIX Session
	C) UNIX and Files
	D) File Characteristics
	E) Directories in UNIX
	F) The UNIX Man Pages
	G) Introduction to the Kornshell
	H) Kornshell Customization
	I) Basic Commands
	J) Finding Files With find
	K) Redirection and Pipes
	L) Processes and Linking
	M) Searching in Files: the grep command
	N) grep: advanced usage
	O) Some Useful Tools
	P) Some More Useful Tools
	Q) Communicating With Other Users
	R) Command Substitution and Variables
	S) Kornshell programming

At the menu screen use the up and down cursor keys to move the menu bar
to the desired UNIX learning module. Pressing the Enter key will start
that module. Alternatively, while at the menu screen simply press the
letter corresponding to the L-nix module you wish to use. Pressing the
X or Esc key will exit the L-nix program.

When in a module, use the PageUp and PageDown keys to move to the next
and previous module screens respectively. Pressing the Esc key will
take you back to the menu screen, unless you are currently in test mode.

At any point in the tutorial, the user may easily switch over to a
UNIX shell simulation. In the shell, users may try out most of the
commands covered in the tutorial screens. Being merely a
simulation, the shell is very limited in what can be done there.
Users can, however, get a feel for the UNIX environment by trying out
commands here.

In many modules, after a certain amount of material has been covered in
the tutorial, a short multiple choice test can be taken. Answers are
selected by pressing the key corresponding to letter next to the answer
presumed to be correct. The testing is entirely optional, the user may
skip it at any time by pressing the Esc key.

                              Known Bugs
                             ͼ

In the L-nix shell the sort command does not work correctly. When
printed to standard output, it does not execute linefeeds correctly.
When the output of the command is redirected to a file the problem is no
longer present. If you have another sort command, like GNU sort, you
might try placing that command in the \lx\root\bin directory.
