READ OUR WEB SITE

This document includes the bare basics needed to get started.
However, http://www.ardi.com/ contains MUCH MORE information.

RUNNING PROGRAMS DIRECTLY OFF FLOPPIES IS SLOW

Running programs directly off floppies is incredibly slow. You will
find it much quicker to use the browser to copy a program from a floppy
into one of your ".hfv" files and then run the program directly out of
the ".hfv" file.

IF EXECUTOR RUNS SLOWLY

Executor needs about 8 MB of memory of its own (i.e. beyond what
Windows is using) to work efficiently. If it does not have enough
physical memory, it will make do by writing infrequently used parts
of itself to your hard disk and only "paging" them in when they're
actually used. However, Windows systems can have their memory
artificially eaten up in too many ways to describe here. If you think
Executor is running slowly, you might want to have a Windows guru
check to make sure that it's not being memory starved.

IF EXECUTOR WON'T RUN

If double-clicking on the Apple icon doesn't start Executor, try
opening the Trouble folder and double-clicking on the Apple labeled
"vgaonly". If that version of Executor works, then you need to
get a new video driver for your video card. You should see what
your video card manufacturer has available on the web and you should
also consider Display Doctor available from
http://www.scitechsoft.com/

If "vgaonly" doesn't work, try double-clicking on the Apple
labeled "Desperat". It should be self-explanatory.

PRINTING

Executor/DOS can print to PostScript printers and PostScript files directly.
To print to non-PostScript printers, you must install Ghostscript for DOS in
c:\gs. Ghostscript and the source are available from ARDI's web site
<http://www.ardi.com/>. The source is also available from our ftp site
<ftp://ftp.ardi.com/pub/src/>. Unmodified source is available from
<ftp://ftp.cs.wisc.edu/pub/ghost/>. Executor/Win32 has better printing
facilities. If you do a lot of printing from Executor, you may want to
use Executor/Win32 instead of Executor/DOS.
