Court Grants Temporary Restraining Order in Favor of Apple in Copyright
Suit Against Microsoft

SAN JOSE, California--March 2, 1995--The United States District Court of
the Northern District of California has issued a temporary restraining
order halting Microsoft Corporation's distribution of certain files in its
Video for Windows developer kits.

The order was granted in response to an application by Apple Computer, Inc.
in Apple's copyright infringement suit against the San Francisco Canyon
Co., Microsoft and Intel Corporation. The lawsuit alleges that the
defendants illegally have copied and distributed significant portions of
Apple's QuickTime for Windows software. Specifically, Apple charges that
Microsoft is using Apple's QuickTime technology to boost the performance
for Microsoft's Video for Windows 1.1d program.

The Court's ruling applies only to the distribution of specific files
through electronic bulletin boards or CD-ROMs. The order does not restrict
any activities by third-party developers.

"We are pleased that in its initial review of the merits of our copyright
claim the Court accepted the facts presented by Apple regarding ownership
and infringement of the QuickTime code," said Ed Stead, Apple's General
Counsel.

Apple's QuickTime multimedia technology offers a standard way of displaying
such information as video, graphics and sound. It enables users of
Windows-based personal computers to play back video and audio in
multimedia applications and gives Apple key advantages in the multimedia
marketplace.
