New Dataquest Study Confirms Apple is #1 Worldwide Multimedia PC Vendor

CUPERTINO, California--March 13, 1995---A new study by market researcher
Dataquest names Apple Computer, Inc. the leading worldwide multimedia
personal computer vendor, with 2.4 million CD-ROM-based units sold in
1994. According to Dataquest's 1995 Multimedia Market Trends report
announced today, the worldwide multimedia personal computer market grew by
312 percent in 1994, largely driven by a strong US home market.

Other research reports have supported Apple's leadership in multimedia: The
company has garnered 33 percent of the existing installed base of
multimedia personal computers, according to 1994 research by SIMBA
Information, Inc. And in 1994, Dataquest found that 63 percent of
developers use the Macintosh to create their content.

"We will continue to innovate and capture the hearts and minds of consumers
and multimedia developers alike," commented Ian Diery, executive vice
president and general manager, Apple Computer, Inc. "We're excited about
the year ahead: Watch for initiatives from Apple that directly and
positively impact multimedia developers, consumers and retailers."

"Apple's long-time vision and commitment to multimedia has paid off
handsomely for them in this hottest of markets. Apple is truly the hottest
of the hot in multimedia," said Bruce Ryon, director and principal
analyst, Multimedia Worldwide, Dataquest.

Dataquest's study reports that Apple has 22.9 percent market share of
worldwide multimedia personal computers. Multimedia PC shipments reached
10.3 million units in 1994--a dramatic increase from the 2.5 million units
sold in 1993. Dataquest defines a multimedia personal computer as one that
has a CD-ROM player and sound capabilities.

"Apple is committed to enriching the multimedia experience and setting new
paradigms for ease of use. CD-ROM title playback should be as easy as
using an audio CD player," commented Satjiv S. Chahil, vice president of
Apple's New Media group. "Our leadership in this area is backed up by the
very low rate of consumer returns of Macintosh CD-ROM titles--literally a
fraction of the returns of Windows/DOS-based titles. Unfortunately, many
consumers had to learn this the hard way over the past holiday season. As
the statistics indicate, multimedia is Apple."

Apple has long been considered a leading multimedia personal computer
vendor, starting with its first Macintosh in 1984 that incorporated sound
and graphics capabilities. Since then, the innovation has continued with
such products as the Power Macintosh and the Performa 630 with its TV
tuner option and video-editing capabilities.
