DIGITAL EQUIPMENT AND MICROSOFT JOINTLY ANNOUNCE DECADMIRE V2.1 FOR VISUAL
BASIC ON OpenVMS

They are also Announcing DECADMIRE V3.0 That Extends the Development
Environment to Multiple Platforms for Client/Server Application
Development in the OpenVMS, Digital's UNIX, Windows 95 and Windows NT
Environments

MAYNARD, Mass -- March 10, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation along with
Microsoft Corporation are announcing today at VBITS '95 in San Francisco
version 2.1 of DECADMIRE for Visual Basic. The version of DECADMIRE
extends Microsoft's Visual Basic development environment by generating
large scale commercial Visual Basic client/server applications using ODBC
or Digital's ACMS Desktop.

DECADMIRE V2.1 provides a Windows-based rapid application development
environment for Visual Basic development teams allowing developers to
design, define, prototype, generate, test and deploy client/server
applications based on Visual Basic. This version of DECADMIRE also
automatically generates the complex code logic needed to merge both client
and server software into a robust application.

"The prototype facility in DECADMIRE with Visual Basic is a very strong
advantage," said Popko van der Veen of Committed Consultancy in The
Netherlands. "After the first prototype sessions, it was easy to build the
application. Just generate the server code and start the application and
it works!" van der Veen added.

Rapid client/server development on Windows accessing a shared OpenVMS
application design base allows the deployment of various client/server
application alternatives including generic ODBC, enhanced ODBC for Oracle
Rdb, Oracle, Microsoft SQL SERVER, Access databases, or transactional
client/server applications with Digital's ACMS software.

Using DECADMIRE for Visual Basic, developers can move into client/server
application development with a step by step approach. They can easily
define or re-engineer applications utilizing file services or relational
databases.

DECADMIRE V2.1 FOR VISUAL BASIC FEATURES:

o A large-scale team development approach to Visual Basic
        projects.
     o A Windows-based development environment for DECADMIRE.
     o Client/server development utilizing a common development
        repository on an OpenVMS-based server.
o Generates Visual Basic application objects, form
definitions, code procedures & project files.
o Deployment with Digital's Alpha (Windows NT, Digital's UNIX
and OpenVMS systems), VAX servers, Windows NT on Intel, or
on any platform with a supporting ODBC database, including
        standalone PCs.
o Generates full client/server transaction processing
applications using Digital's third generation languages and
        ACMS software.
o Robust prototyping allowing test applications without
        coding.
o Consistent, sharable application elements ensuring common
        look-and-feel of end-user applications.
o Marked and preserved modifications to the generated
applications, even if a new version of the application is
        re-generated.

"DECADMIRE has reduced our development time by 60% percent in both a server
and client/server environment while ensuring error- free, optimized code,"
says Gene Buzzeo, president of Buzzeo, Inc., a successful, rapidly growing
commercial application software house. "Our company can now compete
against pre-packaged administrative software with confidence."

Once designed, developers can scale the deployment of their
DECADMIRE-generated Visual Basic applications from a small, departmental
solution to a global production system -- all with the same,
easy-to-maintain generated source code. "DECADMIRE for Visual Basic is
further proof that Visual Basic can be used in business critical
applications as a true development language," said Jon Roskill, Visual
Basic business operations manager for the Microsoft developer division.
"Digital's efforts in this area is another example of an industrial
strength provider supporting Visual Basic."

In addition, OpenVMS application designs are portable to Windows NT, Unix,
and Windows 95 to future versions of DECADMIRE for Visual Basic.

Also announced today is the version 3.0 of DECADMIRE -- the development
environment supporting multiple platforms including OpenVMS, Digital's
UNIX, Windows NT on Alpha and Intel, Windows 95, and a standalone
Windows/Windows 95 version supporting a variety of new ODBC compliant
databases.

DECADMIRE V3.0 for Visual Basic allows developers to work independently
from the platform on which they want to deploy their application. They are
able to test and prototype application definitions, logic, and database
interaction on PCs. With V3.0, the framework established by Microsoft's
Visual Basic software becomes more formalized -- taking advantage of new
and exciting Visual Basic features to create a seemless development
environment. In addition, V3.0 adds the capability to generate stored
procedures and client/server applications using Digital's open TP monitor
software, ACMSxp, running on Digital's UNIX, Windows NT and OpenVMS for
Alpha software.

CHANNELS, AVAILABILITY AND PRICING

DECADMIRE V2.1 for Visual Basic is available through Digital, its DECdirect
