FWB Ships New High-Performance 1.3GB MO Drive

hammerDisk1300HH sets new price/performance standard for rewritable optical
drives

Menlo Park, March 20, 1995. FWB, Inc., manufacturer of the award-winning
Hammer brand of high performance mass storage products, today announced
shipment of the hammerDisk1300HH magneto-optical drive. The drive offers
very high performance in a 5.25" half-height form factor which is
compatible with existing ANSI and ISO-standard 650MB and 1.3GB
cartridges.

"The hammerDisk1300HH completely changes the price/performance equation in
the high-capacity rewritable optical market," said Fred Swan, senior
product marketing manager. "It offers performance which is as fast or
faster than any other 1.3GB drive on the market and does so at a very
aggressive price point. The performance required for high-end color
prepress, DTP, pro audio, and video editing is now available in a product
with the ability to appeal to a broad market."

The drive, which has an MSRP of $2,599, runs at 3,600 RPM for all media
types, the fastest rotational speed currently available for 1.3GB media on
any standard MO drive. Also included is a 4MB cache/buffer managed by
sophisticated S-Cache algorithms. S-Cache is a Sony-proprietary technology
which combines several different algorithms and cache management
techniques resulting in a very high cache-hit ratio and optimized data
transfers. This new addition to FWB's HammerDisk line can sustain transfer
rates of up to 2.4 MB/sec. and has an effective access time of
approximately 19ms. Its excellent reliability is reflected in 100,000 POH
MTBF and 500,000 MSBF ratings.

The hammerDisk1300HH replaces the hammerDisk-PE1300 previously sold by FWB.
The new drive offers substantially increased performance and complete
backward compatibility at a lower price. The new drive will be shipped
with the full version of FWB's award-winning Hard Disk Toolkit, one 1.3GB
cartridge plus all required cabling, active termination and documentation.
It will be available only as an external subsystem and supported by FWB's
PremiumService 1 year warranty.

FWB will continue to sell the hammerDisk1300FMF which features a 4MB cache
and fast performance in a full-height form-factor that supports 1GB media
as well as 1.3GB and 650MB. The hammerDisk1300FMF retails for $3,289.
