ALANTEC Delivers Intelligent LAN Backbone Functionality to Departmental and
High-End Workgroups with Powerhub 6000

Offers Integrated Family of Intelligent Switching Hubs

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- March 20, 1995 -- ALANTEC Corporation, (NASDAQ: ALTC)
announced the PowerHub 6000 intelligent switching hub for departments and
high-end workgroups. The PowerHub 6000 offers LAN switching capabilities
to the high-end workgroup at a price competitive with less powerful
workgroup switch products.

Integrated functionality such as multiprotocol routing, full-featured
bridging, powerful Virtual LAN (VLAN) support, Ethernet and Fast Ethernet
support, and FDDI combine to provide the most robust switching solution
designed specifically for the department and high-end workgroup. All this
is available in a modular, redundant architecture that gives network
managers the ability to easily grow and migrate their LANs while ensuring
network integrity.

The PowerHub 6000 will support up to 36 Ethernet, and either one or two
Fast Ethernet ports or one FDDI ring. A full range of 10Mbps Ethernet
media types will be offered including both 10BaseT and 10BaseFL, as well
as 100BaseTX and 100BaseFX. All will be available in both half or full
duplex standards. The FDDI Fast Card can be ordered in either multi-mode
fiber or, for greater distances, single mode fiber. With this vast
combination of media and speed support, the PowerHub 6000 can be
configured to meet a variety of today's application requirements and,
because of its modular design, can be reconfigured for future network
requirements, such as ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode).

The PowerHub 6000 is designed for easy expandability and reliability.

It's three-slot modular chassis has two 800Mbps internal packet channels
and houses a redundant power supply. The PowerHub 6000 also has an
optional packet accelerator that boosts throughput speeds to more than
150,000 packets per second (pps) while bridging and more than 125,000 pps
while routing. Full duplex Fast Ethernet hub-to-hub connectivity is
supported allowing high-speed backbone data transfers between the PowerHub
6000 and the PowerHub 7000. Price and Availability

Phase one availability of the PowerHub 6000 will be in June and includes
the following components: base unit with 12 10BaseT segment priced at
$9,950, a Fast Ethernet (-TX) Card for $1,000, a Flash Memory Module for
$700, and a Universal Media Module for $960. The second phase, available
in August, includes: an FDDI Fast Card for $3,550, a Fast Ethernet (-FX)
Card for $1,600, a 12-segment 10BaseT module for $6,000, a 6-segment
10BaseFL module for $6000, and a Packet Accelerator for $2,900. To reach
