DIGITAL PRIORIS PC SERVERS EXCEL IN PRICE/PERFORMANCE

AIM Technology's Spring UNIX System Price/Performance Guide Publishes
Outstanding Ratings for Prioris Line

MAYNARD, Mass. -- March 8, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced that three of its Prioris PC servers have achieved outstanding
price/performance ratings, according to a quarterly report by AIM
Technology, an independent testing organization specializing in UNIX
performance tools and services. Digital Prioris servers took top honors in
shared system and file server categories for systems priced less than
$50,000.

According to results published in the Spring, 1995, edition of AIM
Technology's UNIX System Price/Performance Guide, Digital's Prioris
systems outperformed major worldwide UNIX system manufacturers in AIM's
tests, including Compaq Computer Corp., Zenith Data Systems, AST Research,
Tricord Systems and Ing. C. Olivetti & C.S.p.A.

          Best Price/Sustained Performance Under $50,000 -
Systems that reach their maximum capacity for the least cost

     System Mix Rank *
Digital Prioris HX 590DP Shared system 1

Digital Prioris MTE Server 4100 File server 2

Best Sustained Performance under $50,000 -
Systems that maintain high performance under heavy system loads

     System Mix Rank *
Digital Prioris XL Server 590 File server 2

     * 1 is the highest rank awarded by AIM Technology

The Prioris HX 590DP server was highly ranked for Best Sustained
Performance in the shared system mix, for servers priced less than
$50,000. The Prioris XL Server 566 was also highly rated for Best Peak
Performance and Best Sustained Performance for file servers priced less
$15,000.

All multiuser systems were tested using the AIM Multiuser Benchmark Suite
VII, which tests servers running features required by modern open
computing systems in multiuser environments. The AIM suite simulates a
system's application environment and tests performance under various
applications loads and mixes. For example, the "shared system" mix tests
multiuser performance in a standard office environment encompassing word
processing, spreadsheet, email, database, payroll and data processing
applications. The "file server" mix tests system perfomance under heavy,
non-network, integer and I/O loads.

"The test results from AIM Technology strengthen Digital's existing
reputation for excellent price/performance and subsequent customer value,"
said Duane Dickhut, vice president of Digital's PC Server Product Line.
"The exceptional scalability and reliability of the Prioris line of
servers, along with Digital's commitment to global service and support,
position the systems among the leaders in the Intel-based server
marketplace."

According to Jim Geers, president of AIM Technology, "The UNIX System Price
Performance Guide was developed to help manufacturers and end-users
measure and identify the performance of multiuser systems in different
application environments. Digital's superior performance affirms that the
company is a strong force in today's UNIX market."

Digital's Prioris HX systems are optimized to meet customers' needs today
and in the future with processor scalability and subsystem upgradeablity.
The Prioris HX systems are targeted at IS managers running
business-critical applications, network operating systems, and industry
standard databases. Prioris systems are available through Digital's
channel partners, including master resellers, wholesalers, distributors,
dealers, VARs and system integrators, as well as through Digital's direct
sales organization.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
solutions from personal computing to integrated worldwide information
systems. Digital's scalable hardware platforms, storage, networking,
software and services, together with industry-focused solutions from
business partners, help organizations compete and win in today's global
marketplace.
