DIGITAL EQUIPMENT AND SAFEWARE FORM STRATEGIC HARDWARE PARTNERSHIP; DELIVER
FIRST OF ITS KIND MULTIMEDIA MEDICAL EDUCATION SYSTEM

Digital PCs Provide Platform for Medical Training Application

MAYNARD, Mass. -- February 27, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation and
SafeWare Inc. today announced a partnership and agreement to sell
SafeWare's Virtual Physician software with Digital personal computers. The
Virtual Physician, a PC-based multimedia medical education application,
allows doctors and medical professionals to simulate emergency patient
care in a three-dimensional emergency department using life-like
patients.

Under terms of the agreement, Digital will supply all hardware for
individual and multi-user versions of The Virtual Physician and provide PC
support. The Digital PC/SafeWare multimedia educational system will be
available from SafeWare this spring.

"We expect The Virtual Physician to be to medical education what flight
simulators have become to airline pilot training," said Brian Keaton, MD,
vice president, Medical Operations at SafeWare. Dr. Keaton is a leading
specialist in emergency medicine, an educator, and active practitioner at
a teaching hospital in Akron, Ohio. In addition to Dr. Keaton, SafeWare's
Medical Advisory Board includes several nationally prominent physicians,
including Mark Smith, MD, Fellow of the American College of Emergency
Physicians (FACEP), chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the
George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and Earl
Smith, MD, FACEP, who has been responsible for establishing national and
federal clinical guidelines in emergency medicine.

SafeWare also has formed an alliance with the Ohio Chapter of the American
College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) to provide content and subject
matter expertise.

Each product in the Virtual Physician series will present a patient with a
particular symptom. Cardiac Arrest Resuscitation Exercise (CARE), the
first module in the series, gives attending physicians, medical students,
residents, and EMTs the ability to simulate the management of cardiac
arrest using three-dimensional patients who respond to treatments in a
realistic manner. Each product offers an introductory lecture
incorporating sound, video, photographs, x-rays, and animations. The
package also includes multimedia multiple choice questions and answers
that are accompanied by explanations and references.

According to Skip Gladfelter, Americas marketing vice president for
Digital's Personal Computer Business Unit, "The Virtual Physician is a
dramatic way to introduce Digital's multimedia capability to the physician
on the front line. This partnership combines the strength of Digital's
personal computers and acclaimed support organization with SafeWare's
unique medical application. This continues our tradition of service to the
medical community."

CARE will be available with Digital Venturis and Digital Celebris desktop
systems in a minimum configuration of 486/66 Mhz with a 14.4 Kbs modem to
access medical databases. Dennis M. Flanders, Sr., president and CEO of
SafeWare said: "We chose Digital PCs because of Digital's reputation for
quality products, award winning service, and upgrade capabilities. It is
critical that our client physicians receive systems that are not only easy
to use and powerful, but are also supported by standard-setting field
service."

Wyle, Inc., one of Digital's largest distributors, will handle the systems
integration and distribution of the combined hardware/software solution.

SafeWare was founded in 1993. SafeWare's first computer-based training
software, Security Awareness from Education (SAFE), is used by more than
one-million people in government agencies and corporations concerned with
the security of computer information and software piracy.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
