CENTAMETER 2.0 OPTIMIZES SOFTWARE SUITE LICENSES AND TRACKS INACTIVE
APPLICATIONS

Hanover, NH--March 22, 1995--Tally Systems announced today that it is now
shipping CentaMeter 2.0, a NOS-independent software license management
tool that monitors license compliance and optimizes software usage for
both network and locally installed Windows and DOS applications.
Enhancements to CentaMeter 2.0 include customized suite metering, two-way
suite license optimization, inactivity tracking, flexible metering for DOS
environments, enhanced security, enhanced application identification,
built-in NetCensus application list and enhanced graphs.

"CentaMeter's new customized suite metering and suite license optimization
features are pretty slick. The 2.0 features are very well thought out - a
lot of attention is given to the details," states Jim Mando, a Technical
Support Specialist at a leading aerospace equipment supplier. "CentaMeter
was easy to install and get up and running. I was able to do everything
from my desk automatically." Mando is using CentaMeter in a Windows NT
Server environment with NT clients.

"We use CentaMeter to monitor software license use, restrict the use of
unlicensed software, and to control the use of games," states Brian
Sedgebear, an Information Technology Engineer at a major UK manufacturer
of heavy duty power systems. "CentaMeter's enhanced application
identification allows us to distinguish between applications with similar
executables, such as Microsoft Word v2.0 and Word v6.0. Additionally, with
2.0's enhanced filtered application usage graph, I can monitor licenses
across servers with just one installation of CentaMeter." Sedgebear is
using CentaMeter on Windows for Workgroups workstations in a Windows NT
Server environment. "CentaMeter's NOS-independent design even allowed it
to run smoothly in my Windows 95 beta environment," adds Sedgebear.

CentaMeter allows administrators to optimize use of software applications
while making it easy to distribute cost allocations and lower software
costs. CentaMeter's WAN licensing capabilities provide intelligent
software management across the enterprise. Providing for the legal
concurrent use of software applications, along with inactivity tracking
and reminders, CentaMeter ensures the efficient use of resources and
provides valuable management information while allowing organizations to
save time and money.

CentaMeter is NOS-independent

CentaMeter is NOS-independent, running on any PC LAN that supports file
sharing and record locking, such as Novell NetWare (3.x and 4.x), Banyan
Vines, Microsoft Windows NT Server, Windows for Workgroups, and LAN
Manager, DEC Pathworks, IBM LAN Server, and Artisoft LANtastic.

Pricing and Availability

CentaMeter 2.0 is currently shipping and is licensed on a per PC basis.
Price is dependent on total number of PCs; for example, $12.00 per PC for
100 PCs and $9.00 per PC for 1,000 PCs. For licensing over 1,000 PCs,

Customized Suite Metering

Create "suite" licenses to comply with license agreements for packages such
as Microsoft Office or Lotus SmartSuite. Any application can be placed in
a suite to prevent more than the desired number of users from accessing
certain groups of applications at the same time.

Two-way Suite License Optimization

CentaMeter ensures that end-users using only one member of a suite don't
take up a valuable suite license. When a user invokes an application that
is a member of a suite, it searches first for a non-suite license for that
application. When the user invokes the second member of that suite, it
takes a suite license. Subsequently, when the user then closes all but one
member of the suite, CentaMeter searches again for a non-suite license.

Inactivity Tracking and End-user Reminder

CentaMeter tracks the amount of time users are actively using an
application, writes this to the log files, and displays this statistic on
a real-time basis on the View Users screen. CentaMeter continues to remind
end-users to close applications not in active use. The reminder option may
be invoked for each license of each application.

Enhanced Security

Using the optional 2.5k TSR in network login scripts will automatically
invoke the Windows agent when Windows is started, ensuring that CentaMeter
is monitoring all applications.

Enhanced Application Identification

There are several different ways to identify an application for metering.
File name, size, date, drive and path may be used for any Windows or DOS
application. Windows title bar, window class and version resource block
may be added as criteria for Windows
applications. Administrators can meter different versions of the same
application differently; they can select to meter all applications in a
certain directory on the LAN; they can protect against users running an
older version of a program; and they can guard against users renaming
executable files.

Built-in NetCensus Application List

CentaMeter now ships with a long list of commonly used applications and
complete identification criteria for each one--making initial setup
quicker and easier. This data is from NetCensus, Tally Systems' leading
automatic desktop inventory package.

Enhanced Usage Graph

Using a filter, administrators may view license usage according to the way
they've set up their license allocations.

Queue Graph

Administrators can view a graph showing the maximum number of users in a
queue during any fifteen minute period.

Optimization of Network Disconnect/Reconnect

CentaMeter has been optimized to operate in environments where users may
disconnect and reconnect from the network while staying within Windows
(such as Windows for Workgroups environments).
