WILEY TO ACQUIRE VAN NOSTRAND REINHOLD OS/2 COMPUTER BOOK LIST

New York, N.Y. March 6, 1995. John Wiley & Sons, Inc., today announced that
it has reached an agreement in principle with Van Nostrand Reinhold (VNR),
a New York-based division of International Thomson Publishing, for the
purchase of its OS/2 computer-book list. The sale is expected to close by
early spring. The terms of the pending sale were not disclosed.

"The acquisition of the respected VNR list will advance Wiley's position as
one of the top computer-book publishers for the professional market, and
will make us the premier publisher of OS/2 titles," said Charles R. Ellis,
Wiley President and Chief Executive Officer.

The VNR list, which includes 37 titles, covers subjects related to OS/2,
IBM's operating-system software for the personal computer environment, as
well as other information-technology topics such as client-server and
object-oriented programming, and include the bestselling books written by
Robert Orfali and Dan Harkey, recognized experts on OS/2 and client-server
technology.

"The VNR list will round out Wiley's related product lines, and will
greatly expand our market share in intermediate-to-advanced level
computing," explained Stephen Kippur, Senior Vice President of Wiley's
Professional, Reference, and Trade Group. Wiley already has extensive
professional computer-book offerings, having developed in recent years a
substantial editorial program and acquired QED Information Services'
computer book list.

"The sale of the OS/2 list to Wiley provides Van Nostrand Reinhold the
opportunity to complete the strategic realignment of the business around
our core competencies, while providing the authors of this list with an
excellent new home," explained Brian Heer, Executive Vice President of the
Scientific, Technical, Medical, and Professional group for Thomson.

"VNR will use proceeds from the sale to expand its investment in its core
publishing markets of Environmental/ Health & Safety, Hospitality/Culinary
Arts, Architecture, Business Communications, and Electrical Engineering,"
explained Marianne Russell, President of Van Nostrand Reinhold.
