-----------------------------------------------------------------

MARCH 27, 1995, MOBILE, AL - XANTE Corporation introduces the PlateMaker
8200, the only true Adobe PostScript Level 2 platemaking system designed
specifically for printing direct plate materials on large format pages and
with resolutions up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. By printing direct to plate, the
PlateMaker 8200 allows the user to take output straight from the printer
to press. This process requires no intermediate steps.

XANTE is also introducing the Myriad plate, which is polyester-based and
designed specifically for the PlateMaker 8200. Under testing conditions,
the Myriad plate has yielded press runs in excess of 15,000 impressions
when printed on the PlateMaker 8200. This printer is capable of printing
direct plate materials at a fraction of the cost, time, and trouble of
standard metal plate production methods.

The PlateMaker 8200 also prints on regular laser paper to provide
camera-ready output or inexpensive proofs before printing final plate
output. This printer supports 600 x 600 dpi resolution and is
user-upgradable to 800 x 800 and 1200 x 1200 dpi. The PlateMaker 8200
provides high performance capabilities with a fast 33 MHz AMD 29030 RISC
processor and a standard 16 MB RAM, upgradable to 64 MB.

"The PlateMaker 8200 is the first and only laser printer designed
specifically for printing direct to plate and is ideal for short and
medium run press jobs," said XANTE's vice president of marketing and
international sales, Martin Kennedy. "With the PlateMaker 8200 and the
Myriad plate, printing professionals can save time, money, and manpower by
eliminating many traditional print shop steps such as paste-up, processing
film and halftones, stripping, and plate burning. Another convenience is
the same fountain solution that is required by the standard metal plates
can be used with the Myriad plate.

Handling plate and paper sizes up to 11.8 x 25 inch for U.S. models and 12
x 25 inch for international models, the PlateMaker 8200 ships standard
with an input capacity of 350 sheets from two trays and an output capacity
of 250 sheets. An optional third tray is available and can be configured
to hold as many as 500 sheets. Those who wish to print full bleed 11 x 17
inch size documents can do so now with the PlateMaker 8200's oversized
printing capabilities. XANTE's PlateMaker 8200 supports a printable region
up to 11.75 x 24.9 inches for U.S. models and 12 x 24.9 inches for
international models on the oversized paper, which, along with the plates,
is handled through the 100-sheet fold down tray.

The PlateMaker 8200 supports XANTE's Halftone Calibration Technology,
enabling users to adjust the gamma curve of scanned images, gray scales,
and other halftones when printing. This feature enables users to calibrate
the midtones of halftone images, bringing out detail that can be lost when
printing at higher line screens or when dark photos have been scanned.

In conjunction with XANTE's Halftone Calibration Technology, the PlateMaker
8200 also includes an enhanced screening feature. The user is able to
select the normal (default) screen or the enhanced screens which provide
40% more levels of gray. This is a definite benefit when working in
graphics applications that do not allow changes to the line screen of
images from within the program itself. Changes to the enhanced screening
or Halftone Calibration Technology settings are made easily from the
printer's front panel or via software printer setup.

PRINTER FEATURES

Adobe PostScript Level 2 Software - The PlateMaker 8200 offers the
reliability, assurance of compatibility, and high performance provided by
Adobe PostScript Level 2 software. PostScript Level 2 software ensures
several benefits, including enhanced file and memory management schemes,
data compression, forms support, pattern caching, and composite font
support.

High Resolution - The XANTE PlateMaker 8200 provides true 600 x 600 dpi
resolution for near typeset quality output. The 600 dpi resolution is
enhanced by ultra fine toner to make smoother text edges, sharper line art
and cleaner graphics. The printer can be purchased at 600 dpi and upgraded
later 800 or 1200 dpi.

The PlateMaker 8200's quality is well suited for printing direct plate and
camera-ready materials as well as for final product uses and high quality
proofing.

XANTE's Myriad Plate - This polyester-based offset printing plate works
with rubber and oil-based inks. Most conventional metal and silver plate
fountain solutions will work as well. Press runs in excess of 15,000
impressions can be achieved under optimum conditions.

Halftone Calibration Technology - The PlateMaker 8200 allows the user to
adjust the gamma curve of halftones easily from the printer' s front
panel. This feature enables users to calibrate the midtones of halftone
images, bringing out detail that can be lost when printing at higher line
screens or when dark photos have been scanned.

Enhanced Screening Capabilities - XANTE's Enhanced Screening allows the
user to further fine tune the output quality by providing 40% more levels
of gray when enabled. Enhanced screening allows the user to select from
the normal (default) or the enhanced screens defined by 145, 197, or 256
levels of gray using the printer's front panel or via software printer
setup.

Media Handling - The PlateMaker 8200 supports two input sources in its base
configuration. A fold-down tray offers a 100-sheet input capacity and can
support page sizes up to 11.8 x 25 inches for U.S. models and 12 x 25
inches for international models. The second source is a paper feed unit
which supports the 250-sheet letter/A4 or 11 x 17/ A3 trays, which come
standard. An optional third input source is available and can be
configured to hold up to 500 sheets.

HP PCL 5, HP-GL 7475A, and Automatic Emulation Switching - The PlateMaker
8200 ships with HP PCL 5 and HP-GL 7475A emulations for CAD/CAE and other
applications that do not currently support the PostScript language. HP-GL
plots can be printed at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. Also included is resident
code that allows automatic switching between HP PCL 5 and the PostScript
language.

High Performance - In addition to a maximum 12 pages per minute engine
speed, XANTE' s high performance controller design features the AMD
29030/33 MHz RISC processor and 16 MB RAM, upgradable to 64 MB with
user-installable SIMM modules.

Simultaneous Interfacing - RS-232 serial, Centronics Parallel, and
LocalTalk interfaces are standard and can all be active simultaneously for
seamless, cross platform support. Ethernet running concurrently active
EtherTalk and TCP/IP protocols is available as an option. A standard SCSI
interface supports external disk connection for additional font and form
storage.

Font Handling - In addition to providing 35 standard PostScript resident
typefaces, XANTE's PlateMaker 8200 includes support for Adobe' s Type 1
and Type 3 downloadable fonts.

TARGET MARKETS & APPLICATIONS

The PlateMaker 8200 is targeted toward both large and small companies that
require high resolution, oversized paper handling capabilities, fast
processing, and cross platform flexibility with the advantage of printing
on direct plate and vellum materials. The printer can be used to produce
camera-ready output on direct plate materials or plain paper for a variety
of applications.

The growing desktop publishing and printing industry is the primary market
that is attracted to the PlateMaker 8200. Examples of such companies are
service bureaus, print shops, advertising agencies, and in-house graphic
and advertising departments. The PlateMaker 8200 allows these users to
by-pass many of the steps associated with traditional printing by
outputting directly to plate materials. This innovative XANTE technology
reduces the cost and process time required for conventional methods where
the user is tied up by camera work and developing time.

The PlateMaker 8200's oversized paper handling provides the flexibility to
print full bleed 11 x 17/A3 documents, 2 page spreads, and more. In
addition, companies with a mixture of Macintosh, PCs, UNIX, and other
workstation environments benefit from the printer's interface
flexibility.
