Third-Party Developers to Support New Adobe Illustrator 6.0 Plug-in
Architecture

MetaTools, Inc., BeInfinite, Cytopia, Alien Skin, Letraset and Extensis to
Develop New Plug-ins

San Francisco, Calif. (September 26, 1995) (Nasdaq:ADBE) -- Adobe Systems
Incorporated and a number of leading third-party developers today
announced plans to develop new plug-ins for Adobe Illustrator 6.0 software
for Macintosh and Power Macintosh. In conjunction, Adobe today unveiled
Adobe Illustrator 6.0 for Macintosh, a significant upgrade to the
industry's leading illustration and page design program. The new version
is being publicly demonstrated for the first time this week at Seybold San
Francisco, Adobe booth #1613, Moscone Convention Center.

The product's new Application Programming Interface (API) enables third
parties to extend the func-tionality of the Adobe Illustrator program by
developing plug-ins and adding palettes. Users of Adobe Illustrator will
benefit from the new open plug-in interface in Version 6.0 by being able
to run Adobe Photoshop-compatible filters. The new API is the first
iteration of a new Adobe-wide architecture that will be incorporated into
future versions of Adobe's award-winning graphics, dynamic media and
publishing products. This core technology is designed toextend product
functionality by leveraging the use of plug-ins across Adobe " products
running on multiple platforms, including Macintosh, Windows and UNIX.

"With the new API in Adobe Illustrator 6.0, Adobe continues to extend the
boundaries of what's possible with filters," said Sree Kotay, developer of
MetaTools, Inc.'s (formerly HSC Software) KPT Vector Effects, New Town,
Penn. "Developers will be able to truly extend Adobe applications in ways
that haven't even been anticipated. The appeal of the API is not only its
raw ability, but its modularity and elegance; the API's structure makes it
possible to create compelling plug-ins quickly and easily." Among the
developers planning to support the new API in their products are
MetaTools, Inc. (formerly HSC Software), maker of KPT Vector Effects;
Infinite FX publisher BeInfinite, Letraset and Cytopia Software,
developers of Socket Sets 1&2. Other software publishers planning to
develop Adobe Illustrator 6.0-compatible plug-ins include Extensis and
Alien Skin.

"The new API in the Adobe Illustrator program gives developers in-depth
access to the program's power, not just by letting them create filters,
tools and menus within Adobe Illustrator, but also by taking advantage of
some of the technological superiority of the program, especially in areas
such as gradients, layers and Pathfinder filters," said Ted Alspach,
theCave Creek, Arizona-based author of the Macworld Illustrator Bible and
Illustrator Filter Finesse. "And when you take into account that a plug-in
developed for Adobe Illustrator can also work with Adobe Photoshop, the
possibilities are unlimited."
