Adobe Systems Announces Adobe PageMaker 6.0 Software Development Kit for
Macintosh Platforms

SDK Promotes Plug-in Development for Extending PageMaker Functionality

Mountain View, Calif. (September 26, 1995) (Nasdaq: ADBE) -- Adobe Systems
Incorporated today announced a new software development kit (SDK) for
Adobe PageMaker 6.0 for Macintosh and Power Macintosh. The development kit
provides an interface to the PageMaker program's menu commands, tools and
publication data that enables third-party developers to create plug-in
programs that extend the functionality of Adobe PageMaker software. The
kit also includes comprehensive documentation in the Adobe Portable
Document Format (PDF), sample plug-in code, the Adobe Acrobat Reader 2.1
and the Filter Developers' Toolkit. The PageMaker SDK is expected to be
avail-able in October through the Adobe Graphic Applications Plug-in
Program (GAP). Adobe will be at Seybold San Francisco, booth #1613,
Moscone Convention Center.

"With the Adobe PageMaker 6.0 SDK, developers have an easy way to create
plug-ins for the large and diverse community of PageMaker users," said
Mike Peronto, vice president of Adobe Publishing Products. "As Adobe
applications move toward a common extensible architecture, plug-ins will
play an even greater role in our product strategy."

In addition to supporting the file format of Adobe PageMaker 6.0, new
features of the SDK include private data, multiple master pages and access
to the Story Editor. Private data enables developers to attach specific
information to documents and page level objects, such as attaching a
caption to a placed graphic. Through the SDK's new application programming
interface developers can access and define up to 256 master pages within
the PageMaker program to create page templates with repeating elements.

"Developing plug-ins for Adobe PageMaker has enabled us to grow from a
start-up company to more than 20 employees in less than two years," said
Craig Barnes, president of Extensis Corporation of Portland, Ore. "We've
now expanded our product line to include plug-ins for Adobe Illustrator
and Adobe Photoshop and we will soon introduce a new version of PageTools,
our flagship product, for PageMaker 6.0."

The PageMaker SDK is expected to be available free in October through
