Alantec Ships New PowerHub 4000

Company Delivers on Multiprotocol Switching for Workgroups; Customers and
Channel Partners Give New PowerHub 4000 "Thumbs Up"

SAN JOSE, CALIF. -- OCTOBER 10, 1995 --Alantec Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTC),
the design pioneer of multilayer, multiprotocol LAN switching hubs, today
announced volume availability of its PowerHub 4000. Announced in June
1995, the 4000 is the industry's first and only stackable multilayer
switch with bridging and multiprotocol routing as standard features for
workgroup switching.

Channel partners which have placed orders for the 4000 include R Squared
Technologies and Compunet. In addition, several customers- Pacific
Communications Sciences Inc. (PCSI), San Diego; Exponential Technologies,
San Jose; and Lotus Development Corp. Ltd., Toronto- have also taken
shipment of the new 4000.

"Alantec's new 4000 fills the void for companies that need a smaller,
reliable switch at an entry level price," said Mitch Schwartz, vice
president of marketing at R Squared, a systems integrator which recently
placed a significant order for the PowerHub 4000. "The addition of the
PowerHub 4000 to Alantec's full family of switching verifies that we made
the right choice in partnering with Alantec. The company is on the cutting
edge of this market segment, and its concentrated focus on Ethernet
switching is clearly demonstrated in the products."

"We completed a thorough evaluation of the market before selecting
Alantec's PowerHub 4000," said Philip Ekanayaka, Supervisor, Information
Systems at Lotus Development, Canada, Ltd. "First, only Alantec offered
the sophisticated multiprotocol functionality we need to grow our network;
secondly, the product's price performance ratio is the best on the market.
Thirdly, Alantec's specialization in switching was crucial-the company's
technical resources are 100 percent in switching, and this shows in their
products as well as in sales and support."

The new PowerHub 4000 enables network managers for the first time to bring
multiprotocol Virtual LAN (VLAN) support to workgroups and high-end
desktops. It comprises five, fixed configuration product offerings which
provide 12 Ethernet connections and multiple high- speed uplink options
for Fast Ethernet or FDDI connections. All models come with full-featured
bridging and routing for IP, IP Multicast, Novell IPX, and AppleTalk
protocols.

Additionally, the PowerHub 4000 can be managed through the latest
PowerSight release 1.2, Alantec's graphical network management software.
PowerSight 1.2 extends network management functionality to the 4000 and
the 6000 product lines, providing consistent LAN management for the entire
PowerHub family. PowerSight can run standalone, or in concert with the
industry's leading network management platforms- SunNet Manager, HP
OpenView, or IBM NetView/6000.

Shipping now, PowerHub 4000 options include: 12-10BaseT Ethernet for
$6,950; 12-10BaseT Dual TX for $ 7,950; 12 10BaseT Dual FX for $8,950; and
12 10BaseT TX/FX for $8,450.
