ALCHEMY SOFTWARE CERTIFIED ON PINNACLE RCD-1000 CD RECORDER

Alchemy is Ready-To-Store

Englewood, Colorado USA (October 23, 1995) -- Alchemy Personal 3.0 software
from Information Management Research (IMR) is now certified for use on the
Pinnacle RCD-1000, the best-selling CD Recorder. Alchemy is the first and
only indexing/retrieval software that can index files by full-text,
compress the data, and write to the RCD-1000 2X recorder on-the-fly, all
in a single operation. Any hard drive can be used as a source, including
network drives. Alchemy's unique track buffering insures highly reliable
recording without the need for special, expensive hard drives or Pentium
class PCs. The certification testing was conducted by Pinnacle's Customer
Support group in Irvine, CA. under Pinnacle's Ready-To-Store (RTS)
program.

Dan Lucarini, Director of Marketing at IMR said, "Alchemy Personal adds
full-text retrieval capabilities and data compression to the RCD-1000.
With our track buffering technology, RCD-1000 users can reliably record
network files to CD on-the-fly without first building a large image file
on the hard drive." Don Johnson, Optical Product Manager for Pinnacle
added, "We are very excited to work with IMR. Alchemy Personal 3.0
software has several unique, solid features that we can now pass on to our
customers."

Both products are currently available from their respective companies. The
suggested retail price for Alchemy Personal 3.0 is $495. The RCD-1000
internal drive is $1295 for the PC, while the external drive is $1495 for
the Macintosh and PC.

IMR develops and markets Windows software products for CD-R database
creation, indexing, CD-R mastering and data retrieval. Pinnacle Micro is a
leading designer, manufacturer, and supplier of a wide range of optical
storage solutions and recordable CD systems. Pinnacle's products are ideal
for creating CDs and data intensive applications such as network storage,
imaging, desktop publishing and pre-press, as w-ell as the emerging
applications such as digital video/audio editing and commercial
multimedia.

THE ADDED VALUE OF ALCHEMY

CD-Recorders are typically bundled with low-level utility software
("premastering") that copies an image of your PC files to a CDROM. The
files can only be retrieved using DOS "dir" or some file manager. Storing
thousands of files in hundreds of directories on a CD-ROM makes it
difficult at best to retrieve a file or set of files. When CDs made this
way are mounted on LANs, the file retrieval problem is exaggerated even
further. Additionally, this basic utility software often requires a
dedicated, high-speed hard drive to reliably copy files to CD.

Using Alchemy with a CD Recorder offers users extraordinary benefits that
are simply not found in a premastering package.

develops and markets data preparation, indexing, premastering, retrieval
and archival software products for CD-Recordable drives. The IMR
development team has extensive experience with archival and retrieval
search engines, and is able to optimize software for CD-ROM, resulting, in
great performance improvements. IMR's Alchemy provides the first complete
data management system for CD-R that is affordable, easy to operate and
completely integrated.

IMR was founded in 1992 by Robert Drucker and Farhad Khalafi and is
privately held. The company received its first round of investment in
January 1994, and shipped the first version of Alchemy in April 1994. In
April 1995, Mitsui Toatsu Chemicals of America, a leader in CD-R blank

About the Alchemy Software Family

Alchemy is a PC software product from Information Management Research,
Inc., which is designed to turn business and government data into
self-contained, high performance databases residing on low-cost,
recordable CD-ROMs. Alchemy is the first integrated business application
that enables information managers to utilize CD Recorders as the output
device, effectively replacing microfiche, paper, magnetic tape, and other
removable storage media.

An Alchemy CD database contains everything required to effectively browse,
search and retrieve vast amounts of information, using any standard CD-ROM
reader. A runtime retrieval program is included with every license.
Alchemy is especially effective at managing databases in a CD-ROM jukebox
and LAN environment.

For COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disc) applications, IMR developed
DataGrabber as a front-end to Alchemy. DataGrabber is a powerful data
parser and extractor that converts mainframe and minicomputer output files
and imaging database indices into an indexed Alchemy CD-ROM database.

As of October, 1995, over 5,000 sites use Alchemy to make recordable CDs.
Many sites are involved in a COLD application, using DataGrabber with
Alchemy. More than 100 sites are CD service bureaus who convert customers'
data into CD-ROMs. The rest use CD-R for image storage, jukebox archives,
COM replacement, paper replacement, backup and limited publishing of
company or agency documents.

The Alchemy software family is distributed through a world-wide network of
OEMs, distributors, VARs and service bureaus. Alchemy Personal, the
entry-level version, is bundled with every HP SureStore CD Writer and
distributed by HP.
